Wilkinsburg: The Way We See It

Students from Wilkinsburg will host a
screening of their short documentary Wilkinsburg: The Way We See It, at Hosanna House. The students are partnering with the Wilkinsburg
Community Development Corporation to raise support for the greening of
Wilkinsburg’s public spaces.

The film highlights innovative projects in Wilkinsburg, including redevelopment initiatives from the Penn State Center (http://goo.gl/ZQiAB).

The students hope that they can change the negative perception of the community
into that of a thriving business district.

“As a whole, Wilkinsburg is not bad; and that’s what I always tell
people. We want to show people the good things about our community,” said
filmmaker Sophia Bennett.

To make the documentary, students researched the topic,
interviewed local stakeholders, shot videos, and edited the film with the
F.U.S.E. after-school program as part of the Hear Me 101 project at
Carnegie Mellon University.

Admission to the screening is free and a reception follows. Watch Wilkinsburg: The Way We See It at http://goo.gl/svx8f.
