The work resumes tonight at 9 p.m.
Work to rehabilitate the Squirrel Hill Tunnel on the Parkway East (I-376) will resume on Thursday night, Jan. 3. As a courtesy to motorists and travelers, traffic restrictions related to the rehabilitation project were postponed over the holiday season. The following schedule will resume Thursday night: Westbound (inbound) single lane traffic: Eastbound (outbound) single lane traffic: No westbound full closures are scheduled at this time. The a $49.5 million project to rehabilitate the Squirrel Hill Tunnel includes updating electrical, lighting, air control and ventilation systems, structural repairs to the walls and arched ceiling, tile repairs, installation of a water line and other improvements. Traffic will be stopped briefly Sunday morning to allow Comcast crews to install new lines across the Parkway in Wilkins and Monroeville
PennDOT District 11, in cooperation with Comcast, is announcing traffic in both directions on the Parkway East in Wilkins Township and the Municipality of Monroeville will be stopped briefly twice on Sunday morning, Dec. 16, weather permitting. Crews under contract with Comcast will be installing new lines over the Parkway East. PennDOT is not involved in this work. Two stoppages of approximately 10 minutes will occur between the Rodi Road/Penn Hills Interchange and the Monroeville/PA Turnpike Interchange. The first stoppage will occur at 9 a.m. near Exit 81 in Wilkins and the second at 11 a.m. west of Exit 84 in Monroeville. Forest Hills, Churchill and Wilkins residents—and others—will have to find alternate routes during the annual Race for Pace.
Greensburg Pike from Marion Avenue in Forest Hills to the Parkway East ramp/Marbury Road in Churchill will be completely closed to traffic from 8:45 to 10 a.m. this Saturday for the annual Race for Pace and Paws for Pace. Forest Hills police Chief Chuck Williams notes that all side streets with access to the road will be blocked to traffic as well. A letter has been sent to affected residents informing them of the closure. "To run the race safely, we need to block roads," Williams said."Safety has to be the paramount issue." He advises that motorists find alternate routes during that time, such as Ardmore Boulevard, Beulah Road and Tri-Boro Expressway. Left lane closures will be implemented in both directions on I-376.
Median barrier repairs on the Parkway East (I-376) at the Edgewood/Swissvale interchange will occur on Friday night, Sept. 14 weather permitting. Left lane closures will occur in both directions as needed from 10 p.m. Friday to approximately noon on Saturday. Penn Line Services, Inc. will perform the work.
