PennDOT: Allow extra time as delays may occur.
Drivers beware! Single lane closures will occur on Westinghouse Bridge in East Pittsburgh on Thursday, May 16, weather permitting. The closures will occur between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. Motorists are advised to use caution and expect changing traffic patterns when traveling through these areas. Allow extra time as delays may occur. PennDOT will also conduct lane closures for work on Tarentum Bridge from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Thursday, May 16 and on McKees Rocks Bridge from 1 to 3 p.m. on Friday, May 17. PennDOT says motorists should use caution and be aware of changing traffic patterns when driving through the area.
Work to repair barriers on the Parkway East (I-376) will occur on Tuesday and Wednesday nights, May 14-15, weather permitting. Crews from Penn Line Service, Inc. will perform repairs on concrete median barriers each night. Work to remove protective shielding under the bridge that carries the Parkway East (I-376) over South Braddock Avenue in the Edgewood and Swissvale boroughs is expected to continue this week. Single lane traffic will occur as needed on South Braddock Avenue, in the area of the I-376 bridge, weekdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. through Thursday, May 16. PennDOT will close the outbound (eastbound) Squirrel Hill Tunnel on the Parkway East (I-376) during the next two weekends, May 10-13 and May 17-20. "Significant delays should be expected and alternate routes considered," according to the PennDOT news release. The closure will be taking place during the Komen Race for the Cure in Oakland on Sunday, May 12. The closures will occur from 10 p.m. on Friday through 6 a.m. on Monday. Signs will be posted to guide motorists. The posted detour will require eastbound traffic to form a single lane exiting at the Squirrel Hill/Homestead interchange (Exit 74). The outbound Squirrel Hill Tunnel on the Parkway East and the Edgewood/Swissvale parkway on-ramp will be closed this weekend, April 26 to 29. The closure will occur from 10 p.m. on Friday through 6 a.m. on Monday. Crews will continue to remove the outbound tunnel ceiling and rehabilitation and preservation work on the outbound bridge over Commercial Street. The on-ramp from the Edgewood/Swissvale (Exit 77) Interchange to eastbound I-376 will be closed this weekend for work in the immediate vicinity, necessitating the use of the alternative detour which runs through Wilkinsburg Borough. The closure planned for this weekend, March 22-25, on the Squirrel Hill Tunnel has been canceled due to expected inclement weather, according to PennDOT.
