Obituary: Jimmy Bracco, 'Mayor of Regent Square'

Mr. Bracco was a well-known character in the Regent Square area; visitation is Friday only.

James J. "Jimmy" Bracco was one of those guys that many locals knew, from his days at working at Ryan's Pub when it was a major night spot to Dunning's, where he "held court" after becoming disabled in recent years. Mr. Bracco died Monday, Jan. 7, at the age of 77. "Jimmy was well-known throughout the East End by three generations ... as a bartender, raconteur and sidekick of the law-enforcement Conn brothers (Ronnie and Jimmy)," says Bill McCloskey, a writer and editor from Swissvale.  He knew them all—lawyers, cops, bar people, sports bettors and waitresses. I have to admit that Jimmy was partly responsible for marrying Ronnie Conn. Jimmy was the best with a heart of gold, a ready smile and a fab sense of humor. We'll miss ya man.   more ›

Memorial: Longtime Regent Square Woman Known for Local Work

A Regent Square staple passed away last night.

Peg Donnick, a longtime Regent Square fixture in the business district, passed away in her sleep peacefully Tuesday night. The well-known woman worked at a variety of businesses along South Braddock Avenue over the years, including Dunning's, Regency Cleaners and most recently Katerbean and D's.  Please leave your own memories of Peg in the comments below.
