Weather Service Issues Advisory: Expect Lots of Snow This Weekend

National Weather Service forecasts hazardous travel conditions.

Two Clipper-type systems will mean lots of snow to western Pennsylvania this weekend, according to the National Weather Service. A winter weather advisory for snow is in effect from 10 a.m. Saturday to 7 p.m. Sunday. The weather service forecasts snow accumulations of 4 to 6 inches; those totals could go as high as 6 to 10 inches in the higher ridge elevations. The snow will begin mid-morning Saturday and end Sunday evening, with the heaviest snow coming Saturday afternoon into midday Sunday, NWS states on its website. A winter weather advisory for snow means snowfall will cause travel difficulties—be prepared for snow-covered roads and limited visibility. Winter Weather Advisory: 4-6 Inches of Snow Possible for Forest Hills-Regent Square

The National Weather Service says the most intense snow will be Friday afternoon and evening.

UPDATE: Winter Weather Advisory Warns of Blowing Snow

The National Weather Service issued the advisory for Allegheny, Butler, Beaver and other counties in the region.

UPDATE: The National Weather Service forecasts 3 to 5 inches of snow in its updated winter weather advisory issued at 10:05 p.m. Thursday. The weather service forecasts rain will change to light snow late Thursday and the snow intensity will increase Friday afternoon and night. The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for snow and blowing snow and warns that travel will be difficult because of slippery roads and reduced visibility. The advisory is in effect from late Thursday night into Saturday for Allegheny, Butler, Beaver and other counties in the Pittsburgh metropolitan region as well as Ohio and West Virginia.
