Swissvale Students Honored in School District

Congrats to these local kids!

Two students from Woodland Hills Junior High School in Swissvale were the Wolverine Spirit Awardees in May. Tessa Douglas, a seventh grader, was nominated by her teacher, Sara Vollmer. “Tessa is our seventh grade class vice-president," Vollmer said. "She is well-respected by her peers. When she speaks, the class listens to her. She always acts with kindness and genuinely from the heart. She is a high honor roll student who participates in numerous extracurricular activities in GATE and in the theater. Students Honored in Woodland Hills

Congrats to these local kids for their efforts!

Two students from Woodland Hills High School were the Wolverine Spirit Awardees in April. Senior Mario Scaramouche was nominated by his teacher, Matthew Rodrigues. “Mario is the most decorated rifle marksmen in Woodland Hills’ history," he said. "As captain, he led the rifle team to the WPIAL Championship and to a Silver Medal at the PIAA State Finals. Mario is in the top one percent of his class academically." Maddie Marcelle, also a senior, was the second award winner of the night. She was nominated by head swim coach Brad Nepa. “Maddie strives to be the very best swimmer she can be every time she competes," Nepa said. Wilkins Elementary Students Earn Wolverine Spirit Awards

Congrats to these students!

Two students from Wilkins Elementary were the Wolverine Spirit Awardees in March. At this month's school board meeting, Chance Smeltzer, a sixth grader, was nominated by his teacher, Sue Lewis, because “he always gives a 100 percent effort. He is a very hard worker and is very conscientious about his work assignments. He exemplifies the true Wolverine Spirit.” Lavar Crumbley, a first grader, was the second award winner of the night. He was nominated by his teacher, Erik Meredith, who nominated him because “he comes to school everyday and works very hard. He tries his best from the moment he walks in until he leaves. Swissvale Students Earn Wolverine Spirit Awards

Congratulations to these local students for making a difference.

Two students from Dickson Elementary in Swissvale were the Wolverine Spirit Awardees in February. Fifth grader Tatiyanna Fant was nominated by her teacher, Amy Senkow, because, “she is a leader among her peers and an awesome role model. She is considerate of others and trustworthy. She makes education a priority, which makes her very successful academically. Tatiyanna is a warm, funny and humble individual. She is most deserving of the Wolverine Spirit Award.”  James McCoy, a sixth grader, was the second award winner of the night. WH Academy Students Receive Spirit Awards

Check out the latest from the school district.

Two students from the Woodland Hills Academy were the Wolverine Spirit Awardees for January 2012. At the January Woodland Hills school board meeting, seventh grader Amyre Collins was selected for this honor because, “he consistently works hard and demonstrates the attributes of a G.R.E.A.T. student. He strives to be well-read, well-spoken, well- traveled, well-rounded, and is consistently well-dressed.” Collins was nominated for this award by Academy faculty member Ebony Taylor. The second award winner for the night was fifth grader Paige Johnson. Johnson was nominated by her teacher, Ed Nestico, who described Paige as, “having grown leaps and bounds since arriving at the Academy. Her growth is impressive and her potential is endless.” …

Shaffer Students Win Wolverine Spirit Awards

These local students were awarded this week.

Two students from Shaffer Elementary were the Wolverine Spirit Awardees for December. At the this past week's Woodland Hills school board meeting, kindergartner Briana Toney was presented with the award by Superintendent Walter Calinger and Principal Dr. Deborah Vereen.  Toney was nominated by her teacher, Mary Rooney, because “even as a kindergartner, Briana always completes her work. She follows all of the school rules and works very hard to be the best student she can be.” The second award winner for the night was sixth grader Sophie Russell, nominated by her teacher Rosanne Simon. She nominated Russell because “she is a conscientious student in and outside of the classroom. She is always working hard and is very respectful and well …
