A small snowstorm moving into the Pittsburgh area overnight could cause problems with the Tuesday morning rush hour commute. Western Pennsylvania is expected to receive between a half-inch to just under an inch of snow by the time most people are waking up to head to work. Dennis Sims, a meteorologist at Air Science Consultants in Bridgeville, said light snow is expected to move into the area around 2 a.m. Tuesday and won’t end until just after the morning rush hour. “It should be just enough to make roads and bridge decks slippery,” Sims said of the Tuesday morning commute. “Just enough to be a pain in the butt.” He is anticipating less snow the farther north you go and more snow in the south and east. PennDOT spokesman Jim Struzzi said work has ended on major paving projects, but crews still are able to perform work on bridges, install guardrails and put up signs. “It’s been a great December for contractors and PennDOT to get projects done by the end of the year,” Struzzi said. “It’s more construction in December than in recent memory, and that’s good because we had a very wet spring and this lets them wrap things up.” But even when temperatures are nice, rainy days still are not an ideal time for workers to be out on the road, Struzzi said. “…

"They pretty much are jacks of all trades." The DPW crew, John Antolovich, Jeremy Kunkle, Bruce Ruffing and Jim Wissman, are responsible for everything from planting flowers and trimming trees to assisting emergency personnel and maintaining Edgewood's sewers. …

These men are surly dedicated to their jobs and Borough. I think most DPW workers in most of the communities are very loyal and as dedicated. If it wasn't for these guys "making the difference" most towns would be spending a great deal more without men like them. They are doing the job of double their man power. Show them your appreciation by telling them when you see them. I know they would love…   more ›
