A New Vincent's Pizza is Rising from the (Oven) Ashes
A new look for an old favorite along Route 30 at the North Braddock/Forest Hills border.
The sign along Route 30 that features a picture of the late Vincent Chianese tossing the dough for his famous "Vinnie Pies" in the air says it all: "Coming soon." Work has been progressing steadily on the building where Chianese opened his pizza shop and bar in 1950. The building is owned by Chianese's daughter, Toni Zollner, who had hinted at a comeback for the landmark that served a Pittsburgh classic. The outside looks like a whole new building—a big change from the dated look the pizza shop and bar had when it closed last spring. The only questions remaining are: How soon? When I lived in Iowa, every time back in Western PA would end up with a trip to Vinnie's to take his pepperoni special wrapped in butcher paper back across the Mississippi.   more ›
