A New Vincent's Pizza is Rising from the (Oven) Ashes

A new look for an old favorite along Route 30 at the North Braddock/Forest Hills border.

The sign along Route 30 that features a picture of the late Vincent Chianese tossing the dough for his famous "Vinnie Pies" in the air says it all: "Coming soon." Work has been progressing steadily on the building where Chianese opened his pizza shop and bar in 1950. The building is owned by Chianese's daughter, Toni Zollner, who had hinted at a comeback for the landmark that served a Pittsburgh classic. The outside looks like a whole new building—a big change from the dated look the pizza shop and bar had when it closed last spring. The only questions remaining are: How soon? Is Vincent's Pizza Planning a Comeback on Route 30?

The owner isn't saying but remodeling appears to be under way at the North Braddock landmark, just over the Forest Hills border—and Vinnie Pies could return.

From the outside, it would appear that the building might be a phoenix rising from the ashes that used to line the hot ovens at the former Vincent's Pizza Park on Ardmore Boulevard. There is apparent remodeling under way. Dave Andrews, code enforcement officer for North Braddock Borough, said he is working with a contractor hired to fix up the place to make sure the changes meet the borough's building code. He has also reviewed plans that might signal a comeback of the beloved pizza place. Andrews said the borough is waiting for a building permit to be finalized and hopes that the owner moves forward with plans.
