Outbound Squirrel Hill Tunnel Closed Next Two Weekends
The closure will take place during the Race for the Cure.
PennDOT will close the outbound (eastbound) Squirrel Hill Tunnel on the Parkway East (I-376) during the next two weekends, May 10-13 and May 17-20. "Significant delays should be expected and alternate routes considered," according to the PennDOT news release. The closure will be taking place during the Komen Race for the Cure in Oakland on Sunday, May 12. The closures will occur from 10 p.m. on Friday through 6 a.m. on Monday. Signs will be posted to guide motorists. The posted detour will require eastbound traffic to form a single lane exiting at the Squirrel Hill/Homestead interchange (Exit 74). The inbound (westbound) tunnel will remain open while the outbound tunnel is closed, although short-term inbound traffic stoppages may occur …

Ramp to Parkway East Closing Overnight
The northbound South Braddock Avenue on-ramp to inbound Parkway East overnight closures begin Monday.
The ramp from northbound South Braddock Avenue to the westbound (inbound) Parkway East (I-376) in Edgewood and Swissvale boroughs will be closed nightly beginning on Monday, April 29, weather permitting. The ramp closure will occur from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday through Thursday nights and from 9 p.m. to 10 a.m. Friday and Saturday nights. Work will continue through May 10. Signs will be posted to guide motorists. Posted detour: The on-ramp to the inbound Parkway East from southbound South Braddock Avenue will remain open. Please allow extra time when traveling through the area and consider alternate routes. Crews will be replacing expansion dams. The outbound Squirrel Hill Tunnel on the Parkway East and the Edgewood/Swissvale parkway on-ramp will be closed this weekend, April 26 to 29. The closure will occur from 10 p.m. on Friday through 6 a.m. on Monday. Crews will continue to remove the outbound tunnel ceiling and rehabilitation and preservation work on the outbound bridge over Commercial Street. The on-ramp from the Edgewood/Swissvale (Exit 77) Interchange to eastbound I-376 will be closed this weekend for work in the immediate vicinity, necessitating the use of the alternative detour which runs through Wilkinsburg Borough. PennDOT Announces 2013 Highway Improvement Projects for Forest Hills Area
The Parkway East remains a focus.
PennDOT will be working on a number of highway and bridge improvement projects in 2013, including the following projects in the Forest Hills-Regent Square area: “Construction and highway maintenance season is underway with many transportation improvements planned for our region,” said PennDOT District Executive Dan Cessna. “While we are out there making our roads and bridge better for the traveling public, we urge motorists to slow down and stay alert in work zones. Lives depend on you.”

Police Stepping Up Enforcement at the Squirrel Hill Tunnel
State troopers have already issued more than 130 citations.
Pennsylvania State Police troopers are conducting enforcement on the Parkway East in the area of the Squirrel Hill Tunnel, focusing on speeding and construction zones violations. Troopers have issued 131 citations and 15 written warnings since Jan. 1. Additionally, troopers have made 10 DUI arrests in that time frame. Enforcement activities will be ongoing through the duration of the Squirrel Hill Tunnel construction project. The speed limit through the Squirrel Hill Tunnel construction zone is 45 mph. Motorists could face a 15 day driver’s license suspension if caught driving 11 miles per hour over the speed limit in an active work zone, or are involved in a crash in an active work zone and are convicted for failing to drive at a safe …

There will be single-lane closures and traffic shifts during the outbound Squirrel Hill Tunnel closure.
Overhead sign safety inspections on the outbound Parkway East will occur on Saturday morning, April 6, weather permitting. Work requiring intermittent single-lane closures and traffic shifts will occur from 6 a.m. to noon on the outbound Parkway East between Churchill (Exit 79B) and the Monroeville/Plum (Exit 84) interchanges. Two of three outbound lanes will remain open at all times. Inbound traffic will not be affected. There is also an outbound Squirrel Hill Tunnel closure this weekend. Mackin Engineering and the Sofis Rigging Company will conduct the work.

Squirrel Hill Tunnel Detour Route Improvements Set for Wednesday, Thursday
An outbound tunnel closure is scheduled for this weekend, April 5-8.
