PennDOT will close the outbound (eastbound) Squirrel Hill Tunnel on the Parkway East (I-376) during the next two weekends, May 10-13 and May 17-20. "Significant delays should be expected and alternate routes considered," according to the PennDOT news release. The closure will be taking place during the Komen Race for the Cure in Oakland on Sunday, May 12. The closures will occur from 10 p.m. on Friday through 6 a.m. on Monday. Signs will be posted to guide motorists. The posted detour will require eastbound traffic to form a single lane exiting at the Squirrel Hill/Homestead interchange (Exit 74). The northbound South Braddock Avenue on-ramp to inbound Parkway East overnight closures begin Monday.
The ramp from northbound South Braddock Avenue to the westbound (inbound) Parkway East (I-376) in Edgewood and Swissvale boroughs will be closed nightly beginning on Monday, April 29, weather permitting. The ramp closure will occur from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday through Thursday nights and from 9 p.m. to 10 a.m. Friday and Saturday nights. Work will continue through May 10. Signs will be posted to guide motorists. Posted detour: The on-ramp to the inbound Parkway East from southbound South Braddock Avenue will remain open. State troopers have already issued more than 130 citations.
Pennsylvania State Police troopers are conducting enforcement on the Parkway East in the area of the Squirrel Hill Tunnel, focusing on speeding and construction zones violations. Troopers have issued 131 citations and 15 written warnings since Jan. 1. Additionally, troopers have made 10 DUI arrests in that time frame. Enforcement activities will be ongoing through the duration of the Squirrel Hill Tunnel construction project. The speed limit through the Squirrel Hill Tunnel construction zone is 45 mph. Motorists could face a 15 day driver’s license suspension if caught driving 11 miles per hour over the speed limit in an active work zone, or are involved in a crash in an active work zone and are convicted for failing to drive at a safe …

Overhead sign safety inspections on the outbound Parkway East will occur on Saturday morning, April 6, weather permitting. Work requiring intermittent single-lane closures and traffic shifts will occur from 6 a.m. to noon on the outbound Parkway East between Churchill (Exit 79B) and the Monroeville/Plum (Exit 84) interchanges.
