South Braddock Avenue Restrictions Continue

Single-lane restrictions are expected to occur through Thursday, May 16.

Work to remove protective shielding under the bridge that carries the Parkway East (I-376) over South Braddock Avenue in the Edgewood and Swissvale boroughs is expected to continue this week. Single lane traffic will occur as needed on South Braddock Avenue, in the area of the I-376 bridge, weekdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. through Thursday, May 16.  Only one direction will be restricted at a time. Vanilla Pastry Studio to Open in Regent Square Friday

Have a sweet tooth? You're in luck!

A new pastry studio is opening its doors in Regent Square on Friday. Vanilla Pastry Studio has relocated from East Liberty to a new space adjacent to Typhoon Lighting and across the street from Square Cafe. "Our move is coming along beautifully! We will be re-opening on Friday! The Sugar Fairies have been flying to get our new space all ready! The pink espresso machine will be installed today! We look forward to seeing all of our Fans in Regent Square!" the shop's Facebook page announced Wednesday. Man Accused of Tagging Businesses in Swissvale

The Lancaster resident is facing several criminal mischief charges.

A man from Lancaster is accused of tagging several businesses in the Swissvale/Regent Square area. Last week, John Paul Ressel, 22, went before Forest Hills District Justice Thomas Caulfield. He waived a preliminary hearing on five counts of criminal mischief. A charge of disorderly conduct was withdrawn. Swissvale police filed the charges after an April 14 incident in which they found Ressel drawing on businesses with red and black markers along South Braddock Avenue. Ressel is accused of tagging Typhoon Lighting, D's Six Pack and Hot Dogs, Murphy's Tap Room, Port Authority property and Swissvale Borough. City of Pittsburgh police also have charged Ressel with criminal mischief for vandalizing property in Point Breeze. According to the …

Bomb Squad Called To Regent Square Thursday Morning

A backpack with the words "time bomb" printed on one of the straps was found on an apartment building stoop on Forbes Avenue—but no explosives were found inside.

Pittsburgh police bomb squad responded to Regent Square this morning after a backpack with the words "time bomb" printed on one of the straps was found at an apartment entrance at the corner building on Forbes Avenue at South Braddock. No explosives were found inside the bag. Nina Wolf, who owns Animal Nature, which shares the building with apartments and a restaurant that was empty, was headed up South Braddock from Regent Square when she saw the emergency lights at the building. She was worried the building might be on fire. "I arrived to find I couldn't get to the store," she said. She tried coming up the back way on Flotilla Way but was stopped. South Braddock Avenue Pedestrian Safety Meeting Set

The meeting is Wednesday at the Environmental Charter School at Frick Park.

Regent Square Civic Association has organized a meeting to discuss pedestrian safety when crossing South Braddock Avenue on Wednesday, Jan. 23, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Environmental Charter School-Upper School Building, Milton Avenue and Henrietta Street. The meeting is open to the public. Those attending will be able to discuss and share concerns and ideas for pedestrian safety along the South Braddock Avenue corridor following the accident that occurred on Nov. 10, 2012 at the corner of South Braddock and Henrietta. Vanilla Pastry Studio Leaving East Liberty for Regent Square

The pastry shop plans to move next to Typhoon Lighting in Swissvale by early spring 2013.

East Liberty's loss will be a sweet gain for Regent Square. Vanilla Pastry Studio, a popular bakery in East Liberty, plans to open its doors on the Swissvale side of South Braddock Avenue in the spring. "There are often tough decisions to be made in even the sweetest of businesses...while we will be somewhat sad to leave our current home in East Liberty, we are thrilled to announce that beginning in early spring, Vanilla will be located in Regent Square," the shop's Facebook page announced Tuesday.
