Bitter Temperatures Moving into Pittsburgh

You better bundle up this week as bitterly cold temperatures are expected to move into Pittsburgh. There is also a chance of snow Monday and Tuesday in the Forest Hills-Regent Square area.

You better bundle up this week as bitterly cold temperatures are expected to move into the Pittsburgh area. Dennis Sims, a meteorologist at Air Science Consultants in Bridgeville, told Patch last week that he expected the bitter temperatures to arrive in the Pittsburgh area on Tuesday. Sims said the middle of the week would have lows in single digits and highs in the teens. That forecast was backed up by the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh. Snow, Wintery Mix in Forest Hills-Regent Square Forecast

A winter weather advisory has been issued for our area.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for Allegheny County—Forest Hills-Regent Square area included—beginning Tuesday night into Wednesday morning. Snow, sleet and freezing rain are expected in our area, and the advisory is in effect from 7 p.m. Tuesday until 10 a.m. Wednesday. Accumulations of 1 to 2 inches of snow, along with a light glaze from freezing rain is expected. The weather could cause hazardous travel conditions due to snow, sleet and ice-covered roads. Motorists should use caution. 'Let It Snow' Preschool Story Time Set at East Catholic

The story, rhyme, song and craft time is set for Jan. 16.

January's Perfect for Preschoolers Story-time at East Catholic School will be centered around a theme perfect for the season—"Let It Snow." The activity for children 2½ to 5 years old, along with their parents or guardians, will take place at the school, 2001 Ardmore Blvd., Forest Hills, from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 16. The free story, rhyme, song and craft program is designed to entertain and engage young children, and provide a positive introduction to books and the habit of reading. Each program features appealing books, favorite stories and lively activities. Winter Weather Advisory Issued for Forest Hills-Regent Square Area

As much as 3 inches of snow is expected within a 12-hour window, the National Weather Service has indicated.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for the Forest Hills-Regent Square area from 3 a.m. through 3 p.m. Saturday. An accumulation of between 2 and 4 inches is expected. “Light snow will overspread the area late tonight with an inch possible by dawn,” the website stated. “Light snow will continue to fall into the afternoon with an additional 1 to 3 inches possible.” Temperatures are expected to hover in the upper 20s and low 30s Saturday, according to the NWS. UPDATE: Heavy Snow Hits Forest Hills-Regent Square Area Wednesday

Weather forecasters issue a winter storm warning for the Pittsburgh metro area through 6 a.m. Thursday.

If you've been hoping for a winter wonderland, you've got it! The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for Allegheny County, effective from 5 a.m. Wednesday through 6 a.m. Thursday. Four to eight inches of snow are expected to accumulate throughout the day, with heavy snow occurring mid-Wednesday morning through the afternoon. Sleet and freezing rain are also expected. Visibility for motorists could be limited to a quarter-of-a-mile during heavy snows, according to the NWS. Hazardous travel conditions are expected. UPDATE: Winter Weather Advisory Warns of Blowing Snow

The National Weather Service issued the advisory for Allegheny, Butler, Beaver and other counties in the region.

UPDATE: The National Weather Service forecasts 3 to 5 inches of snow in its updated winter weather advisory issued at 10:05 p.m. Thursday. The weather service forecasts rain will change to light snow late Thursday and the snow intensity will increase Friday afternoon and night. The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for snow and blowing snow and warns that travel will be difficult because of slippery roads and reduced visibility. The advisory is in effect from late Thursday night into Saturday for Allegheny, Butler, Beaver and other counties in the Pittsburgh metropolitan region as well as Ohio and West Virginia. Keep Dreaming: Weather Forecasters Say Christmas in Pittsburgh Won't Be White

Some snowfall is expected in the days leading up to Christmas Eve, according to the National Weather Service in Moon Township.

Hopes may be dashed for anyone dreaming of a white Christmas.  Weather forecasters in Moon Township say no Yuletide snow is on the way.  Meteorologist John Darnley, of the National Weather Service in Moon, said a storm front moving in through the Midwest is expected to arrive in western Pennsylvania on Christmas Day.  Snow isn't on the forecast for the day, but rain is a possibility, he said.  "We might actually see some snow Friday night into Saturday morning," Darnley said. Say it isn't So! Spring Snow Predicted For Sunday Night, Monday Morning

The National Weather Service issues a winter storm watch for our area.

Snow is on the way just days after some gorgeous spring weather. The National Weather Service in Moon Township issued a winter storm watch late Sunday night through Monday evening. Rain is predicted to change to snow after midnight Sunday night with the heaviest snowfall on Monday morning. Six inches of accumulation is expected in the area.  "A heavy, wet accumulation of snow is expected that may cause significant problems with the downing of tree limbs that have developed leaves which may in turn spawn power outages. Some travel difficulties can be expected Monday morning as well," according to the weather statement.
