Pittsburgh police purchased drugs at the home of the football player.
A former Woodland Hills High School football player, who now plays for Pitt, got caught up in an undercover drug bust. Pittsburgh narcotics detectives made an undercover buy Thursday night at the South Oakland house Khaynin Mosley-Smith, 21, resides in, according to the Pittsburgh Police spokesperson. Detectives arrested the man they bought drugs from, Darnell Reed-Young, 22, of the North Side, and charged him with possession of a controlled substance, delivery of a controlled substance, possession wit intent to deliver controlled substance and use or possession of paraphernalia. Police officers have charged 34 individuals in an undercover drug investigation in downtown Pittsburgh, including three Wilkinsburg men. Davon Loveings, 19, Brandon Taylor, 21, and Joe Middlebrook, 40, are all charged with possession of a controlled substance, intent to deliver a controlled substance and delivery of a controlled substance. The investigation was initiated in response to numerous complaints of open-air drug sales downtown, but more specifically, the sale of prescription pills at the Smithfield Street McDonald’s during the early morning hours. A grand jury indicted former Pittsburgh Police Chief Nate Harper on Friday.
Former Pittsburgh Police Chief Nate Harper was indicted by a grand jury Friday, WPXI reports. According to WPXI, Harper faces five charges, including four counts of failure to properly file income tax returns and one count of conspiracy to commit theft from an agency receiving federal funds. The federal grand jury reports that Harper illegally diverted more than $70,000 that was received by the police bureau's special events office and he spent more than $31,000 of that on himself. Mary Ann Verdecchia's disappearance rocked the Pittsburgh area in 1962.
One of the oldest and most memorable missing persons cases in southwestern Pennsylvania is that of Mary Ann Verdecchia, who disappeared from Pittsburgh's Bloomfield neighborhood on June 7, 1962. The 10-year-old had lived with her aunt in the five years after her parents separated. She had returned home after a half day of classes at Immaculate Conception School, changed out of her school uniform and went outside about 12:30 p.m. Witnesses saw Mary Ann go into the Martinique Apartments on Baum Boulevard. A woman resident who she ran errands for sent her to the store. She was seen going back into the apartment about 2:45 p.m. And that was the last reported sighting of her. Ashanti Montgomery was taken into custody on Sunday.
Wilkinsburg police arrested Ashanti Montgomery on Sunday in connection with a homicide that occurred in Pittsburgh on Jan. 10. Ashanti Montgomery, 18, of Homewood had an outstanding arrest warrant obtained by the Pittsburgh Police Homicide Squad in connection with the shooting death of Deondre Pace, which occurred in the 300 block of Beltzhoover Avenue on Jan. 10. After the arrest, Wilkinsburg police notified the city homicide division that Montgomery was in custody. Montgomery is charged with criminal homicide, firearms not to be carried without a license, and criminal conspiracy. He is being held in the Allegheny County Jail. Bail has been denied. She was last seen or heard from in June 2011, just after she moved back to Pittsburgh from Florida.
Amanda Marie Koller had moved back to the Pittsburgh area from Orlando, FL in May 2011. The 23-year-old did not establish or maintain a permanent address in the few short weeks after her return, according to her mother. On Sunday, June 12, 2011, she was stopped by Pittsburgh police and cited for operating a vehicle without a valid inspection and also without an emissions inspection. Her car, a purple 2005 Scion TC has a Pennsylvania license plate and also one from Florida, both of which expired in 2011. The license numbers are Pennsylvania GLH 0116 and Florida ANA 4580, according to the Pennsylvania Missing Persons website. She has not been seen nor heard from since. Pittsburgh police bomb squad responded to Regent Square this morning after a backpack with the words "time bomb" printed on one of the straps was found at an apartment entrance at the corner building on Forbes Avenue at South Braddock. No explosives were found inside the bag. Nina Wolf, who owns Animal Nature, which shares the building with apartments and a restaurant that was empty, was headed up South Braddock from Regent Square when she saw the emergency lights at the building. Two people are in critical condition after gunfire erupted at a midget football game between East End and Wilkinsburg.
The Pittsburgh Bureau of Police is seeking witnesses or persons with information about a shooting incident Saturday morning in East Liberty during a midget football game between the East End Raiders and Wilkinsburg. At approximately 10:08 a.m., police responded to the Pittsburgh Obama School football field, 515 N. Highland Ave, where three people in the stands had been shot. According to police, a 27-year-old male from Wilkinsburg was shot in the chest, a 64-year-old female from Verona was shot in the stomach and shoulder and a 33-year-old female was shot in the hand.
