Allegheny County Police Seek Suspect in McKeesport Shootings

Julian Sims, the suspect, is known to frequent Wilkinsburg and Braddock.

A man known to frequent the areas of Wilkinsburg, Braddock, and Duquesne is wanted in connection with the shooting of four people during a New Year's Eve party in McKeesport. According to Allegheny County police, the shooter has been identified as 20-year-old Julian Sims. A warrant has been obtained for Sims, charging him with one count of criminal attempt homicide, four counts of aggravated assault, four counts of recklessly endangering other persons, and firearms violations. Sims has a previously existing warrant for firearms violations. Sims is a light skinned black male, approximately 5 feet, 7 inches; and about 145 pounds. He has freckles and a large tattoo on the left side of his neck that says “Bridgette”. He should be considered …

AAA Warns Against DUI on New Year’s Eve

The auto club has some sobering statistics for you to think about before drinking and driving.

If you plan to party on New Year’s Eve, AAA has some sobering statistics for you to think about before drinking and driving. Compared to all other days in 2012, New Year’s Day had the highest percentage of deaths that occurred in crashes with a driver who had a blood-alcohol level of .08 or higher, according to AAA spokesperson Bevi Powell. AAA statistics show that 122 people were killed in crashes on New Year’s Day 2011, and a little more than half of those crashes involved a drunk driver. “If you plan to drink, absolutely don’t drive,” Powell said. “If you plan to drink, make sure to bring a friend who can drive you home.” She also cautioned against anyone getting into a car with a driver who has been drinking. Here's a recipe they shared on KDKA's Pittsburgh Today Live: Spiced Cosmo Shake all ingredients over ice in a cocktail shaker, and strain into cocktail glass. Ring in 2013 at Pittsburgh First Night

The Downtown event promises a lot of fun and activities for visitors.

Ring in the new year with fellow Pittsburghers at Highmark's First Night Pittsburgh event. The family-friendly event is produced by the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust and sponsored by Highmark. First Night provides visitors the opportunity to ring in the new year while celebrating the arts—dance, music, theater, comedy, hands-on activities and more. Several of the city's theaters will be hosting a variety of performances. The event begins at 6 p.m. with the Dollar Bank children's fireworks display and a performance by American Idol finalist—and Washington County resident—Adam Brock & The Soul Band (at the stage on Seventh Street and Penn Avenue). Recipe of the Week: New Year's Eve Party Cocktails

Clique Vodka shared custom cocktail recipes—the Black & Gold, One Marvelous Mimosa and a Spiced Cosmo—on Pittsburgh Today Live earlier this week.

Last month, Clique Vodka provided Patch readers with holiday cocktail recipes. This week, it's all about New Year's Eve. Here are the recipes they shared on KDKA's Pittsburgh Today Live earlier this week:  Black & Gold 1 ¼ oz Clique Vodka ½ oz Chai tea syrup* 4 oz lemonade Pour Clique Vodka into glass over ice and add lemonade. Slowly add chai syrup so it collects at the bottom of the glass, creating a layered effect. One Marvelous Mimosa 1 oz Clique Vodka 1 ½ oz freshly squeezed orange juice 3 ½ oz sparkling wine Chill the Clique Vodka in a cocktail tin with ice and strain into a flute glass. You could be fined or worse if hosting a party where alcohol is served. Follow these tips and protect the ones you love!

Hosting a holiday party this month? You could be fined or even go to prison, if you aren’t careful. Sound ridiculous? Maybe. But what most people in Dubois—or even Forest Hills and Regent Square—don’t know is that being a “social host” could cost you your freedom or a minimum of $2,500.  According to Pennsylvania law, a “social host” is one who hosts a holiday party at home and serves alcohol. If a social host serves alcohol to a minor and the individual then leaves the party intoxicated, ending up in a car accident, you, as the social host, can be liable for the minor’s injuries and if the individual injures someone else. “Many people in Dubois (and other places) don’t know that like restaurants and bars, holiday social hosts have …
