Severe Thunderstorm Watch Expires for Pittsburgh Area

The watch expired early

Update: The watch has expired. A severe thunderstorm watch has been issued for southwestern Pennsylvania, including Forest Hills, Regent Square, Edgewood and Swissvale. The watch remains in effect through 10 p.m. Wednesday night, according to the National Weather Service, which says some storms cound be severe with damaging winds.  The chance of showers and thunderstorms is expected mainly after 5 p.m. and before midnight.  If you take any weather photos, please share them in the media box above. Severe Thunderstorm Possible Wednesday Afternoon in Pittsburgh

The primary threat would be from damaging wind gusts.

There is a small chance that thunderstorms may become severe Wednesday afternoon in Forest Hills, Regent Square, Swissvale and Edgewood, according to a hazardous outlook issued by the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh. "The primary threat would be from damaging wind gusts, but large hail is also possible," the statement says. National Weather Service Issues Freeze Warning for Pittsburgh

Unprotected plants will be damaged.

Forest Hills, Regent Square, Edgewood, Swissvale and the surrounding area is under a freeze warning from 1 to 8 a.m. Tuesday. The National Weather Service predicts temperatures may dip into the 20s overnight. Meteorologists warn that unprotected outdoor plants will likely be damaged or killed, so cover the plants and bring potted plants indoors. The temperature is expected to rise throughout the week. Frost Advisory In Effect Friday Morning

Cover your plants.

The National Weather Service located in Moon Township issued a frost advisory for Allegheny County from 3 to 9 a.m. Friday. Temperatures are expected to dip to 33 to 35 degrees. Severe Thunderstorm Watch Expires for Allegheny County

Wednesday's forecast includes a chance of showers.

The National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm watch for Allegheny County Tuesday until 11 p.m. Showers and thunderstorms are likely, according to the statement. Wednesday's forecast in the Forest Hills area includes a slight chance of showers, with thunderstorms also possible after noon, and a high near 71. Warmer Temperatures On the Way

The weekend forecast looks much warmer.

Warmer temperatures are on the way after Pittsburgh experienced a record low temperature Thursday morning. The National Weather Service in Moon Township recorded an unofficial low temperature of 19 degrees at Pittsburgh International Airport at 6 a.m., which broke the record low of 20 degrees in 1954, according to the Post-Gazette. The high temperature is in the 50s, with the mercury hitting the 60s on Sunday.  Here's the National Weather Service's weekend forecast for the Swissvale area:

Winter Storm Warning: Several Inches of Snow Predicted for Forest Hills-Regent Square Area

The snow is expected to start Sunday night.

Though it's officially spring, it seems as though the Forest Hills-Regent Square area will experience some more winter weather. The National Weather Service in Pittsburgh has issued a Winter Storm Warning for the entire Pittsburgh region, including Forest Hills, Regent Square, Edgewood and Swissvale. The warning is in effect from 11 p.m. Sunday through 11 a.m. Monday. Snow is expected to be most intense from midnight Sunday through the pre-dawn hours of Monday, accumulating 4 to 7 inches before ending by Monday afternoon. Heavy snow could make traveling hazardous. Advisory Upgraded to Winter Storm Warning: Forecasters Increase Snow Predictions

The storm that will hit the Forest Hills-Regent Square area is expected to begin as a mixture of rain and snow before turning to all snow overnight.

The National Weather Service in Pittsburgh has issued a winter storm warning for the Pittsburgh region, including Forest Hills, Edgewood and Swissvale, from 6 p.m. Tuesday until 5 p.m. Wednesday. Forecasters say snow will accumulate 5 to 8 inches before the storm ends Wednesday afternoon. The period of most intense snow will be between midnight Tuesday and 8 a.m. Wednesday. The South Hills of Pittsburgh and other areas south and east of the city could get up to 8 inches. Even heavier snow is expected to fall in the Laurel Highlands of Fayette, Westmoreland and Somerset counties. Neighborhoods west of Pittsburgh are expected to get a little bit less. PennDOT announced that it's preparing for the "mixed-precipitation winter event" that is set to hit the area tonight and tomorrow.
