South Braddock Avenue On-Ramp to Inbound Parkway East Closed This Weekend

The ramp closure will occur from 9 p.m. on Friday through 5 a.m. on Monday.

The ramp from northbound (traveling toward Edgewood) South Braddock Avenue to the westbound/inbound Parkway East (I-376) in Edgewood and Swissvale boroughs will be closed this weekend, March 8-11, weather permitting.  Southbound (traveling toward Swissvale) traffic on South Braddock Avenue will still be able to access westbound I-376. The ramp closure will occur from 9 p.m. on Friday through 5 a.m. on Monday, according to PennDOT spokesman Jim Struzzi. Signs will be posted to guide motorists. Squirrel Hill Tunnel Weekend Closures Resume in Late March

Outbound ceiling removal begins.

Single direction weekend closures of the Squirrel Hill Tunnel on the Parkway East will resume in late March. Both directions will not be closed simultaneously, according to PennDOT spokesman Jim Struzzi. The first closure is planned in the outbound (eastbound) tunnel during the weekend of March 22-25 from 11 p.m. on Friday through 6 a.m. on Monday. Crews will begin work to remove the outbound tunnel ceiling, and continue rehabilitation and preservation work on the outbound bridge over Commercial Street. When overall work is completed, vertical clearance in the eastbound tunnel will increase from 13 feet, 6 inches to 14 feet, 9 inches. PennDOT Unveils Construction Projects

This year’s PennDOT construction work will include $282 million worth of road and bridge improvement projects. The biggest projects are reconstruction of the Squirrel Hill Tunnels and Liberty Tubes. Find out if the roads you travel on will be fixed.

This year’s PennDOT construction work will include $282 million worth of road and bridge improvement projects that hit every corner of Allegheny County. About half of the money being spent on road projects in the county will be spent on bridge reconstruction. PennDOT District 11 Executive Dan Cessna said during a press conference last week that the “most impactful” project in the Pittsburgh area will be reconstruction of the outbound lanes of the Squirrel Tunnels. That project is expected to cost close to $50 million and will include weekend closures beginning on March 22. There will also be various single-lane closures during nights to allow for work. Parkway East Commercial Street Bridge Inspection Saturday and Sunday

Restrictions will be, as needed, from 6 a.m. to noon.

Short-term single lane closures on the westbound (inbound) Parkway East will occur on Saturday and Sunday mornings, Jan. 12 and 13, weather permitting. Crews will be inspecting the bridge that carries I-376 over Commercial Street between the Edgewood-Swissvale interchange and the Squirrel Hill Tunnel, according to PennDOT District 11 spokesman Jim Struzzi. Parkway East Squirrel Hill Tunnel Lane Closures Resume Thursday Night

The work resumes tonight at 9 p.m.

Work to rehabilitate the Squirrel Hill Tunnel on the Parkway East (I-376) will resume on Thursday night, Jan. 3. As a courtesy to motorists and travelers, traffic restrictions related to the rehabilitation project were postponed over the holiday season. The following schedule will resume Thursday night: Westbound (inbound) single lane traffic: Eastbound (outbound) single lane traffic: No westbound full closures are scheduled at this time.  The a $49.5 million project to rehabilitate the Squirrel Hill Tunnel includes updating electrical, lighting, air control and ventilation systems, structural repairs to the walls and arched ceiling, tile repairs, installation of a water line and other improvements. Two-Vehicle Crash Shuts Down Parkway East in Wilkinsburg

The accident, caused when one driver was traveling in the wrong lanes, happened early Monday morning and shut down westbound traffic for more than an hour.

A 26-year-old Pittsburgh woman is hospitalized with severe head injuries resulting from a two-vehicle accident on the Parkway East in Wilkinsburg early Monday morning. According to Pennsylvania State Police, at about 4:23 a.m., Carrie Marie Mammay was traveling east in the westbound lanes of the Parkway East when her 1990 Chevrolet Metro struck a 2009 Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by Paul Tavella, 47, of Greensburg, which was traveling west in the westbound lanes. Mammay was taken to UPMC Mercy Hospital, suffering from severe head injuries. Tavella and his passenger, Jeanne Tavella, 45, of Greensburg, were taken to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital with minor injuries. Parkway East Traffic Stoppages Sunday for Utility Work

Traffic will be stopped briefly Sunday morning to allow Comcast crews to install new lines across the Parkway in Wilkins and Monroeville

PennDOT District 11, in cooperation with Comcast, is announcing traffic in both directions on the Parkway East in Wilkins Township and the Municipality of Monroeville will be stopped briefly twice on Sunday morning, Dec. 16, weather permitting. Crews under contract with Comcast will be installing new lines over the Parkway East. PennDOT is not involved in this work. Two stoppages of approximately 10 minutes will occur between the Rodi Road/Penn Hills Interchange and the Monroeville/PA Turnpike Interchange. The first stoppage will occur at 9 a.m. near Exit 81 in Wilkins and the second at 11 a.m. west of Exit 84 in Monroeville. Westbound I-376 'Bathtub' Closed Tuesday Night in Pittsburgh

Detours will be in effect for the Parkway East traffic headed westbound, and to the North Shore and Parkway North.

The westbound Parkway East/Central in Pittsburgh will be closed between Grant Street (Exit 71A) and the Fort Pitt Bridge/I-279 ramps— the area known as the "bathtub"—on Tuesday night, Dec. 11, weather permitting. According to PennDOT District 11 Press Officer Jim Struzzi, crews will be sawing and sealing pavement joints, placing barrier and other minor activities needed to complete the work. Outbound Squirrel Hill Tunnel Single Lane Closures Begin Wednesday

There will be single-lane traffic in the outbound tunnel along the Parkway East through Dec. 11.

Overnight single-lane traffic in the outbound (eastbound) Squirrel Hill Tunnel on the Parkway East (I-376) will begin on Wednesday night, Nov. 28. Single-lane traffic will occur in the outbound tunnel according to the following schedule through Dec. 11: According to PennDOT, crews will be conducting rehabilitation work in the tunnel and improvements to the Commercial Avenue Bridge. Motorists are advised to use caution and allow extra time when traveling through the area. The work is part of the $49.5 million Squirrel Hill Tunnel rehabilitation project. PennDOT Closes Squirrel Hill Tunnel Westbound This Weekend

Repairs continue on the tunnel this Friday evening through Monday morning.

The westbound (inbound) Squirrel Hill Tunnel on the Parkway East (I-376) will be closed this weekend, Nov. 2-5. The westbound closure will occur from 9 p.m. on Friday through 5 a.m. on Monday, according to PennDOT District 11 Press Officer Jim Struzzi. Signs will be posted to guide motorists. The posted detour will require westbound traffic to form a single lane exiting at the Edgewood/Swissvale interchange. Significant delays should be expected and alternate routes considered.
