Some of the biggest names in music take the stage at Madison Square Garden for the live 12-12-12 concert for Sandy relief. While thousands of people fill the arena, billions are watching live on a variety of screens worldwide. The concert is streaming live on television networks, movie theater screens and on the Internet, including right here on Patch. Some of the biggest names in music will play at a benefit concert on Wednesday. All proceeds will go to Hurricane Sandy victims, via the Robin Hood Foundation.
Huge names in music are lending their talents to Hurricane Sandy relief efforts at the “12-12-12” concert on Wednesday, Dec. 12. Every penny sold from ticket sales will go directly to Sandy victims through the Robin Hood Relief Fund, which provides material, money and aid to local organizations that are serving families and individuals in the regions hardest hit by the storm, including over 200 Patch towns in New Jersey, Connecticut and Long Island. Supermodel Heidi Klum is lending her efforts to affected victims and families of Superstorm Sandy by distributing supplies, food, and water in the afternoon on Sunday, Dec. 2 at the American Red Cross Nassau Chapter in Mineola, NY, in partnership with the American Red Cross, AOL, and Patch. Cast members and Steelers were among those who attended a fundraiser and film event at Dormont's Hollywood Theater on Friday.
With Emma Watson signing autographs on Potomac Avenue last year, and a Tom Cruise movie filming in town last December, Dormont is no stranger to celebrity visits. But Friday's special showing of "Christmas in Compton" brought celebrities to Dormont's Hollywood Theater with a purpose. The event served, in part, as a fundraiser for the Red Cross, to support survivors of Hurricane Sandy. "We didn't expect it to get this big," said Hollywood Theater manager Chad Hunter. "We're certainly not complaining that it did. It's definitely great for the theater, but it's supporting a good cause, too. We couldn't have asked for this. It's wonderful." Employees help out, and you can, too.
It's been said it's far better to have a neighbor who's near, than a brother who's far away, but in the wake of Hurricane Sandy, Americans across the nation have proven to be the best neighbors and the strongest of families. This past weekend, AOL and Patch employees took an opportunity to pitch in, packing two tractor trailers worth of food, water and supplies in Dulles, VA, and Baltimore. The measure comes in response to Hurricane Sandy.
Because of the damaging effects of Hurricane Sandy across the state, Pennsylvania Department of Transportation Secretary Barry J. Schoch has authorized an extension of the expiration dates for Pennsylvania driver's licenses, identification cards and vehicle inspections/registrations. Oct. 31 expiration dates for vehicle registrations and safety and emissions inspections have been extended until Nov. 15, as have expiration dates between Oct. 26 and Nov. 15 for driver's licenses and identification cards.
