Funeral Arrangements Made for Bus Accident Victim

Alberta A. Slaczka, 67, died on Wednesday following a school bus accident in Forest Hills last week.

Funeral services will be held this weekend for the victim of a school bus accident in Forest Hills. Alberta A. (Mignogna) "Bunny" Slaczka, 67, of Wilkins Township, formerly of Pitcairn, passed away Wednesday, May 8, 2013. She was the loving wife of Stanley J. Slaczka of 47 years; cherished mother of Nicole Salera and her husband, Tony, of North Huntingdon, and her devoted son, Stanley "Stush" Slaczka, of Wilkins Township; adoring grandmother of Ryan and Nathan Salera, of North Huntingdon; caring sister of Donna McNinch and her husband, Ron, of Webster, N.Y.; special aunt of Stephanie Fix and her husband, William, and Renee Campbell and her husband, Rick; and great aunt of Matthew Campbell, of Rochester, N.Y.; and also survived by several …

Woman Dies After School Bus Accident in Forest Hills

Alberta Slaczka, 67, has died after being hit by a school bus last week.

A woman who was hit by a school bus in Forest Hills last week has died, according to WTAE. Alberta Slaczka, 67, of Wilkins underwent surgery at UPMC Mercy for a broken hip and broken ribs following the May 1 accident on Greensburg Pike. Ernest Brevard, 71, is accused of hitting Slaczka with his bus and leaving the scene of the accident. According to court documents, he faces charges of accidents involving death or personal injury, immediate notice of accident to police, false reports, careless driving, reckless driving and failure to stop at a stop sign. Allegheny County police filed the charges. His preliminary hearing before Forest Hills District Judge Thomas Caulfield was scheduled for today. The rescheduled date is unknown at this time…

Office Building in Forest Hills Burglarized

Here are the police reports for April 26 to May 2.

Forest Hills police are investigating a burglary at an office building. On April 29, the property owners of the building at 1501 Ardmore Boulevard reported that one of the suites had been burglarized over the weekend. According to police, a suite that was being renovated for new tenants was broken into and items were stolen. Police continue to investigate. The following incidents were reported to the Forest Hills Police Department: April 26 Police responded to Ardmore Boulevard at Bevington Road after reports that a woman holding a baby had been kicked out of a vehicle. Forest Hills Police Search for Bus Driver Involved in Pedestrian Hit-and-Run

Police were interviewing motorists on Greensburg Pike Thursday morning.

A woman is in critical condition after being hit by a school bus in Forest Hills on Wednesday. Forest Hills Police Chief Chuck Williams said that at about 8:05 a.m., a small school bus was pulling out of Carl Avenue and struck a Wilkins Township resident—dragging her into the middle of Greensburg Pike. "It was a horrific scene," he said. According to WPXI, the woman is identified as 67-year-old Alberta Slaczka. The driver of the bus reportedly drove off, according to police. Slaczka suffered a broken hip and broken ribs, underwent surgery, and she remains in critical condition at Mercy Hospital. Police closed Greensburg Pike from Marion Avenue to Elizabeth Street for several hours following the accident. Williams said Allegheny County …

The hit-and-run accident occurred on Greensburg Pike Wednesday morning.

A woman is in critical condition after being hit by a school bus in Forest Hills on Wednesday. According to WPXI, Alberta Slaczka was taking a walk Wednesday morning when she was hit by a school bus. According to WTAE, she was hit at about 8 a.m. on Carl Avenue and then dragged onto Greensburg Pike. The driver of the bus reportedly drove off. Slaczka suffered a broken hip and broken ribs. Police closed Greensburg Pike from Marion Avenue to Elizabeth Street for several hours following the accident. They continue to investigate the incident. Edgewood Towne Centre Giant Eagle Hit with Retail Thefts

Cat food, caffeine pills and a doughnut are among items people tried to steal—and the other Edgewood Police Department blotter items for first half of January.

Edgewood police reponded to four retail theft incidents at the Giant Eagle in Edgewood Towne Centre during the first half of January—and the stolen items were an unusual mix: Giant Eagle will handle all the incidents through private prosecution. Several Vehicle Break-Ins Reported in Forest Hills

This week's Forest Hills police blotter also includes a lost dog, a woman searching through a trash bin for food and a man arrested on drug charges.

Over the last week, Forest Hills police handled a number of reports of cars being broken into and items stolen from inside them. A resident of the 500 block of Windsor Avenue reported Jan. 8 that her parked car had been entered and spare change taken from the center console after midnight. The resident discovered the theft about 8:15 a.m. The resident told police the car most likely had been locked. A GPS system and spare change had been taken from the car in another theft on Dec. 30. Also on Jan. 8, a resident of the 700 block of Atlantic Avenue told police that someone broke into his unlocked vehicle overnight and stole $10 in loose change. He told police he had heard the crime alert about the rash of car break-ins but was not able to …
