Woman Dies After School Bus Accident in Forest Hills

Alberta Slaczka, 67, has died after being hit by a school bus last week.

A woman who was hit by a school bus in Forest Hills last week has died, according to WTAE. Alberta Slaczka, 67, of Wilkins underwent surgery at UPMC Mercy for a broken hip and broken ribs following the May 1 accident on Greensburg Pike. Ernest Brevard, 71, is accused of hitting Slaczka with his bus and leaving the scene of the accident. According to court documents, he faces charges of accidents involving death or personal injury, immediate notice of accident to police, false reports, careless driving, reckless driving and failure to stop at a stop sign. Allegheny County police filed the charges. His preliminary hearing before Forest Hills District Judge Thomas Caulfield was scheduled for today. The rescheduled date is unknown at this time…

Forest Hills Police Search for Bus Driver Involved in Pedestrian Hit-and-Run

Police were interviewing motorists on Greensburg Pike Thursday morning.

A woman is in critical condition after being hit by a school bus in Forest Hills on Wednesday. Forest Hills Police Chief Chuck Williams said that at about 8:05 a.m., a small school bus was pulling out of Carl Avenue and struck a Wilkins Township resident—dragging her into the middle of Greensburg Pike. "It was a horrific scene," he said. According to WPXI, the woman is identified as 67-year-old Alberta Slaczka. The driver of the bus reportedly drove off, according to police. Slaczka suffered a broken hip and broken ribs, underwent surgery, and she remains in critical condition at Mercy Hospital. Police closed Greensburg Pike from Marion Avenue to Elizabeth Street for several hours following the accident. Williams said Allegheny County …

The hit-and-run accident occurred on Greensburg Pike Wednesday morning.

A woman is in critical condition after being hit by a school bus in Forest Hills on Wednesday. According to WPXI, Alberta Slaczka was taking a walk Wednesday morning when she was hit by a school bus. According to WTAE, she was hit at about 8 a.m. on Carl Avenue and then dragged onto Greensburg Pike. The driver of the bus reportedly drove off. Slaczka suffered a broken hip and broken ribs. Police closed Greensburg Pike from Marion Avenue to Elizabeth Street for several hours following the accident. They continue to investigate the incident. Turtle Creek Man Chased Along Greensburg Pike, Shots Fired

The man said occupants of a car yelled racial slurs, then shot at him after a high-speed chase along Greensburg Pike.

Three white men in a 2002 silver or gold Hyundai Sonata reportedly threw a beverage at a Turtle Creek man's car early Thursday morning, yelled racial slurs, chased him at high speeds along Greensburg Pike and then fired shots at him as he arrived at his home on Prospect Street. Steven McDougald, who is black, told WTAE-TV that he reached 85 mph Thursday morning as the men followed him along the four-lane roadway. He said the men started shooting at him as he entered his home. Turtle Creek police reported finding bullet casings in front of McDougald's house. Man Tasered after Fleeing from Forest Hills Police

Incident on Greensburg Pike started with a report of a man trying to throw himself in front of a vehicle.

Forest Hills police charged Benjamin Klink with resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and public drunkenness following an incident on Greensburg Pike about 12:55 a.m. Oct. 15. According to police, a woman reported that a man, who was possibly intoxicated, had attempted to throw himself in front of a car on Greensburg Pike in the vicinity of Lenox Avenue. Police were dispatched to the area and located two men walking who fit the description given. One of the two Forest Hills officers who responded recognized Klink, 29, whose address is listed as Pittsburgh, 15221, from a high-speed vehicle pursuit several months ago. The officer ordered Klink and a second man, Derick Ebbitt, to stop and come closer several times. According to the police …

Greensburg Pike Shut Down to Traffic This Saturday Morning

Forest Hills, Churchill and Wilkins residents—and others—will have to find alternate routes during the annual Race for Pace.

Greensburg Pike from Marion Avenue in Forest Hills to the Parkway East ramp/Marbury Road in Churchill will be completely closed to traffic from 8:45 to 10 a.m. this Saturday for the annual Race for Pace and Paws for Pace. Forest Hills police Chief Chuck Williams notes that all side streets with access to the road will be blocked to traffic as well. A letter has been sent to affected residents informing them of the closure. "To run the race safely, we need to block roads," Williams said."Safety has to be the paramount issue." He advises that motorists find alternate routes during that time, such as Ardmore Boulevard, Beulah Road and Tri-Boro Expressway. Forest Hills Chief Warns about Greensburg Pike Speeding

Police recently gave out a 'fair amount' of tickets during a traffic detail.

It's hard not to speed on Greensburg Pike. A portion of the four-lane road that runs through Forest Hills, Churchill and Wilkins is relatively straight and level and, with no traffic lights or stop signs, an easy place to build up speed. On Sept. 29, Forest Hills police were informed about two cars racing in the vicinity of Marion Avenue. The caller said one car was a black SUV and the other a gray sedan—and that they had pulled into the parking lot adjacent to the Plaza Lounge. By the time police arrived, the cars were gone. Forest Hills police Chief Chuck Williams said officers conducted a traffic detail along Greensburg Pike recently and give out "a fair amount of tickets." My wife and I walk a 4 mile streach of Greansburg Pike every day and see fist had the speeders. It's kind of scary when they are doing in excess for 40-50 mph and whiz by you only a few feet wayw fom the sidewalk. I'm sure the dozens of other poeple who enjoy walking te Pike will welcome the increased patrol of speeders on the Pike...Thanks to all the Boro Officers for enforcing and being seen.   more ›

Race for Pace/Paws for Pace Set for Oct. 13 in Churchill

A family fun area will be added this year and preregistration numbers are up.

Preregistration is under way for the 12th annual Race for Pace 5K and Paws for Pace 1-mile fun run/walk on Oct. 13. The 5K race will begin at 9 a.m. on Greensburg Pike, across from the school, and the 1-mile Paws for Pace portion will start immediately following. This year’s race will be the kickoff of a two-year capital campaign for Pace School to raise money for a new playground.  The Race for Pace is one of the strongest fundraisers for the school and has raised over $500,000 since its start in 2000. Honorary co-hosts for the event are Mike Clark and Kelly Frey of WTAE-TV. The new family fun area on the school grounds will be open from 8 to 11 a.m. and include face painting, pumpkins, games and activities. Refreshments will be available…
