Vinnie Pie lovers, get those taste buds ready! According to the Post Gazette, owner Toni Zollner's attorney, Frank Rapp, said Vincent's Pizza in North Braddock could be reopening in the next few months. The Route 30 landmark—just over the Forest Hills border—was ordered to close last spring. The pizza shop was started by Vincent Chianese, Zollner's father, in 1950. One of the licensees,Chianese's business partner John Bellissimo (B&C Pizza Inc.), stopped paying the necessary royalties after Chianese died in March 2010. He owed $42,000. According to the Vincent's Pizza Park Facebook page, the Route 30 located is expected to reopen in June. Many residents in the Sherwood neighborhood are unhappy about noise and traffic coming from a Hosanna House facility.
Forest Hills and Wilkinsburg officials are expected to meet with representatives of Hosanna House International to discuss some noise and traffic issues stemming from the Sherwood Event Center. The meeting, which is an attempt to address the concerns of unhappy residents in Forest Hills' Sherwood Road neighborhood, is scheduled for Thursday, May 16. A representative of the neighborhood also will attend the closed meeting. The Sherwood Event Center, located at the end of Sherwood Road, is technically located in Wilkinsburg Borough. However, there only is one way to get there, and that's on Sherwood Road in Forest Hills. Forest Hills officials are expected to move forward with allowing residents to raise chickens and bees.
Forest Hills residents interested in raising bees and chickens might be able to do so in the next few months—but they want people in the community to be educated about urban farming. Next Wednesday, borough council is expected to approve the advertisement of an ordinance regulating the raising of bees and chickens. Once the proposed law is publicly advertised, officials will be ready to approve or reject it in June. Council had discussed separating the bee and chicken ordinances, but during a straw vote, the majority agreed to keep them together. Alberta Slaczka, 67, has died after being hit by a school bus last week.
A woman who was hit by a school bus in Forest Hills last week has died, according to WTAE. Alberta Slaczka, 67, of Wilkins underwent surgery at UPMC Mercy for a broken hip and broken ribs following the May 1 accident on Greensburg Pike. Ernest Brevard, 71, is accused of hitting Slaczka with his bus and leaving the scene of the accident. According to court documents, he faces charges of accidents involving death or personal injury, immediate notice of accident to police, false reports, careless driving, reckless driving and failure to stop at a stop sign. Allegheny County police filed the charges. His preliminary hearing before Forest Hills District Judge Thomas Caulfield was scheduled for today. The rescheduled date is unknown at this time…
