This winter, Edgewood Fire Chief Dave Andrews is reminding residents to keep fire hydrants shoveled out of the snow and visible in case of an emergency. With the work of plows and accumulating snow, the hydrants can sometimes remain hidden in the winter months and difficult for firefighters to see.

Nov. 20 fire left 11 people homeless
Swissvale Council earlier this month placed two buildings on the borough's emergency demolition list in the aftermath of a fire that left 11 people homeless. The fire occurred around 4 a.m. on Nov. 20. The residents who lived in both houses, which included a duplex, are receiving aid from the Southwestern Pennsylvania American Red Cross. Brian Knavish, marketing and communications coordinator at the Red Cross, said the organization is helping the six adults and five children affected by the fire.
