Swissvale Plans New Look for Washington Ave.

Swissvale Council approved plans to move forward with potential construction.

Swissvale Council is moving forward with plans to develop a streetscape project that will eventually give Washington Avenue a total makeover. The borough currently has access to $180,000 in grant money from Allegheny County Economic Development, which could fully fund the estimated $169,000 cost of the project. “This is great progress for all involved,” said council member Mike Epitropoulos. This specific project was born out of several meetings that have taken place in recent months by the borough’s revived Economic Development Advisory Committee. The group, which is formed by local leaders in Swissvale, brainstormed and discussed several proactive ways to revitalize the business districts within the borough. EDAC has been collaborating …

Swissvale Revitalization Projects Breaking Ground

Mon Valley Initiative, Swissvale Economic Development Corporation and Swissvale Borough come together to make a difference.

A neighborhood church steeped in local history will soon transform into a cluster of condominiums in a more than $1 million revitalization project. Construction is expected to begin this month at 7416 Duquesne Ave., a church built in 1921 and formerly known as the Madonna Del Castello Church. This project is just one of many in Swissvale, as the community has teamed up with the Mon Valley Initiative to create a healthier neighborhood through refurbished properties and green spaces.
