Judge Hoots Holds Man and Woman for Court on Drug-Related Charges

A Turtle Creek man and a Wilkinsburg woman were held for court by District Judge Kim M. Hoots on a variety of charges after a Wilkinsburg police officer discovered suspected crack cocaine and drug paraphernalia during a traffic stop. According to a criminal complaint, an officer on patrol along Penn Avenue noticed a vehicle traveling above the speed limit by about 10 to 15 mph and initiated a traffic stop. The driver, Terrence Hubbard, 40, of 501 Locust St., Turtle Creek, did not have identification. He consented to a search and the officer discovered a glass crack cocaine pipe inside his pants pocket. Former Central Catholic Counselor Waives Hearing on Drug Charges

A former Central Catholic High School guidance counselor is out of jail and has waived a preliminary hearing on heroin-related charges. Last week, Kelly Scherer, 36, waived a preliminary hearing on charges of conspiracy; two counts of intent to possess a controlled substance; and four counts of manufacture, delivery or possession of a controlled substance before District Justice Thomas Caulfield. Forest Hills police are accusing Scherer of dealing heroin and selling it to an undercover police officer from her Sumner Avenue apartment. According to a criminal complaint filed by the Forest Hills Police Department, Scherer was being investigated back in 2011. Two residents of South Avenue face drug-related charges in Allegheny Common Pleas Court after police conducted two controlled purchases of crack cocaine at their home. Isis Mitchell, 36, of 1104 South Ave., Wilkinsburg, waived her right to a preliminary hearing before District Judge Kim M. Hoots on Nov. 29 on charges of conspiracy—manufacture, deliver or possession; intentional possession of a controlled substance by a person not registered and use/possession of drug paraphernalia filed by Wilkinsburg police. One charge of manufacture, delivery or possession with intent to deliver was withdrawn. Central Catholic Counselor Busted in Forest Hills for Selling Heroin

Central Catholic High School's guidance counselor is being accused of selling heroin from her Forest Hills apartment. Forest Hills police have charged Kelly Scherer, 36, with conspiracy, two counts of possession of a controlled substance, two counts of possession with the intent to deliver and two counts of prohibited acts. According to KDKA, Scherer, the counselor at the Oakland private school, is accused of dealing heroin and selling it to an undercover police officer. According to WPXI, police found about 150 needles and at least 50 stamp bags of suspected heroin in her Sumner Avenue apartment at the time of her arrest. Two Women Waive Hearings on Drug Charges

Two women waived their right to a preliminary hearing before District Judge Kim M. Hoots on several charges stemming from an incident July 4 at the intersection of Pennwood and Whitney avenues in Wilkinsburg. Lauren Martin Tarr, 28, of West Mifflin is charged with tampering with/fabricating physical evidence and intentional possession of a controlled substance by a person not registered. An additional charge of conspiracy to manufacture, deliver, possession with intent to manufacture and deliver filed by Swissvale police was withdrawn.
