Some dedicated volunteers finally track down the missing feline in Frick Park after a man recognized the cat from a Patch story.
Danielle, the pretty kitty missing after she escaped from a carrier near the Animal Nature shop in Regent Square on Oct. 16, is in a warm Forest Hills home today after being found Saturday in Frick Park. Danielle had last been seen at the corner of South Braddock Avenue and Guthrie Street, headed away from Frick Park and into the residential area. Volunteers, who had rescued Danielle after her former family got rid of her because she had fleas, were heartsick when they couldn't find her. A nationally ranked college woman fencer and possible contender for the 1980 U.S. Olympic team, Carol, 24, was a Penn State graduate student working for the summer at the U.S. Steel Corp. in Monroeville through a cooperative job program. Carol and a friend, Michael Pierce, had jogged 15 miles together the night of July 30 before they separated at roughly 9:15 p.m. about one mile from the home, which had been converted into apartments, on Murrayhill Avenue (also spelled Murray Hill) in Squirrel Hill they shared with four other friends. Carol continued on to the Squirrel Hill Giant Eagle supermarket on Murray Avenue at …

The westbound closure will occur from 9 p.m. on Friday through 5 a.m. on Monday, according to PennDOT District 11 Press Officer Jim Struzzi. Signs will be posted to guide motorists. The posted detour will require westbound traffic to form a single lane exiting at the Edgewood/Swissvale interchange. Significant delays should be expected and alternate routes considered. The outbound (eastbound) tunnel will remain open, although short-term traffic stoppages may occur for equipment access and material removal. The same westbound closure of the Squirrel Hill Tunnel is also planned for next weekend, Oct. 19-22, and tentatively the …
