Ways to Go Greener in Forest Hills-Regent Square Area

Here's a list of some places to take items that should not be sent to landfills or placed at the curb.

Although Earth Day is officially April 22, it's not too early for residents of Regent Square and Forest Hills, Swissvale, Edgewood and Wilkinsburg boroughs to begin to look at ways to be more environmentally friendly. The following is a list of items, provided in part by the Allegheny County Health Department, that should not be in landfills and generally aren't collected through municipal recycling. Listed below those items are places at which those items can be disposed/recycled. Appliances Gulf Trading and Transport, Braddock Borough Local Goodwill Stores may also accept some small appliances. We accept plastic and paper bags at Animal Nature as well, and use them around the store as well as to pack up items for our customers. Mon Valley Groups Work on Braddock Business Development

Mon Valley Initiative and a contractor develop a commercial real estate marketing plan and tools based upon the desire of property owners and the community in Braddock.

Mon Valley Initiative, a coalition of community development corporations in the Monongahela Valley, received a $25,000 grant in May from the Enterprise Zone Corp. of Braddock, to contract with Mark Harvey Smith, a real estate broker and community consultant, to develop a commercial real estate marketing plan and tools based upon the desire of property owners and the community in Braddock. This marketing phase builds on a community plan developed earlier this year by MVI and the Braddock Economic Development Corp. (BEDCO), a member of MVI, and adopted by Braddock Council in October. Maria McCool Starts New Chapter in Braddock

The former director of communications for Woodland Hills School District has a new job.

Maria McCool, who served for six years as the director of communications at Woodland Hills, started her new job as Braddock’s borough manager this week. McCool of Forest Hills resigned from her Woodland Hills post recently and is looking forward to working with the community of Braddock. She recently sat down with us for a conversation about her new role. What entails your new position?
