Motorists should use caution, slow down and expect changing traffic patterns when traveling through the area.
The eastbound Route 30 (Ardmore Boulevard) off-ramp to Electric Avenue in North Braddock will be closed for just over a week. The closure, which began on May 3, is necessary for crews to continue work on the bridge that carries westbound Route 30 over Electric Avenue. The ramp will be closed to traffic continuously through Wednesday, May 15 at 7 p.m. The overall project will be completed in fall 2013. About 3,386 vehicles use the ramp on an average day. Detour signs are posted to guide motorists. Here's a look at the detour: The $12.9 million project includes replacing the bridges over Electric Avenue, bituminous pavement, approach work, drainage, guide rail and concrete barrier, highway lighting, retaining walls and other improvements on …

Forest Hills police officers have increased enforcement on the busy road.
The Forest Hills Police Department has increased patrols on one of the borough's busiest roads. Police Chief Chuck Williams said the aggresive driving patrols on Ardmore Boulevard are under way. "That means you're going to see police cars with their lights on, unmarked cars and traffic stops," the chief said. "Please drive slowly. "Aggressive driving patrols isn't about giving tickets. It's about trying to make sure that people drive safely." Williams said the East Hills DUI Task Force also will be conducting roving driving under the influence patrols within the next month. "These are some of the things we're trying to do to provide safety," he said. "Especially on Ardmore boulevard, where we have most of our accidents." …

A new look for an old favorite along Route 30 at the North Braddock/Forest Hills border.
The sign along Route 30 that features a picture of the late Vincent Chianese tossing the dough for his famous "Vinnie Pies" in the air says it all: "Coming soon." Work has been progressing steadily on the building where Chianese opened his pizza shop and bar in 1950. The building is owned by Chianese's daughter, Toni Zollner, who had hinted at a comeback for the landmark that served a Pittsburgh classic. The outside looks like a whole new building—a big change from the dated look the pizza shop and bar had when it closed last spring. The only questions remaining are: How soon? Will it retain the name Vincent's Pizza Park? And what does the inside look like? Are you looking forward to the return of the Vinnie Pie? Do you have a favorite …

This vacant structure at the corner of Ardmore Boulevard and Braddock Road sits at one of the borough's prime corners.
At the corner of Ardmore Boulevard and Braddock Road in Forest Hills sits a vacant office building. Built in 1928, the five-story structure at 1844 Ardmore Blvd. is for sale for $625,000. It has 52,192 square feet that have been used as office space through the years and the sales information indicates it has been remodeled. Giant Eagle had its eyes on the property for a GetGo gas station/convenience store this summer. But Forest Hills Presbyterian Church declined the gas station’s $200,000 offer for a portion of its parking lot in August that would have been needed for the proposed GetGo, bringing an end to a debate among the church members that the Rev. Ben Black, pastor, described as “heated.” Do you have a vision for this property? Do …
