What's the Worst Intersection in the Patch?

Tell us which one you think is the worst in the Forest Hills-Regent Square area.

Whether it's the volume of traffic, the timing of the lights or people who consistently run the light after it turns red, everyone has an intersection they love to hate. Maybe you avoid that intersection at rush hour. Or when school buses cause congestion as school dismisses for the day. Maybe it's the pedestrians who think "yield to pedestrians in crosswalk" means they can not make eye contact, walk in front of a moving car and expect you to stop even though you're almost at the crosswalk. Or the on-street parking spaces that require people to parallel park as they back up traffic. And there are a few intersections that have been scenes of fatal accidents through the years. Braddock Avenue near Roslyn and Westmorland Avenue. The lights have been out of sync for years causing back ups morning and night. It really backs up when Kennywood is open.   more ›

Edgewood Burglary Suspects Face Preliminary Hearing Thursday

Police respond to burglary in progress on East Hutchinson Avenue; District Judge Kim M. Hoots will hear their cases.

Edgewood police arrested two men Dec. 20 during a burglary in progress at a home in the 800 block of East Hutchinson Avenue. One of the suspects, Dejon Edwards Jackson, 20, of Pittsburgh was apprehended after he jumped from a second-story window in the home. Edgewood police charged him with criminal trespass, burglary and conspiracy-burglary in connection with the incident. He was held in Allegheny County Jail, unable to post a $10,000 bond, until Dec. 27, when he was released on his own recognizance. A second suspect, Michael Patterson, 18, of Wilkinsburg hid on the third floor of the house until he was discovered by police and taken into custody. Crowd Lines Up in Edgewood Towne Centre for Release of New Air Jordan Shoes

Edgewood police found the situation at Villa under control—and other police news from late December.

A manager at Villa, a store in Edgewood Towne Centre that specializes in exclusive footwear and urban wear, called Edgewood police Dec. 20 after being concerned that the large crowd gathered outside the store awaiting the release of new Air Jordan shoes might become disorderly. Police checked the situation and found no problem, despite the large number of people in line. Trick-or-Treater Struck by Car in Edgewood Saturday Night

The child was taken to Children's Hospital after accident on Maple Avenue.

A Penn Hills boy, about 4 or 5 years old, was reported to be in serious condition at Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh Saturday night after being hit by a car while trick-or-treating near Edgewood Primary School. The boy was reportedly wearing a dark-colored ninja costume, which might have made him difficult to see as he and his grandmother attempted to cross Linden Avenue. He was unconscious at the scene and Edgewood police called in homicide detectives as a precaution because of the nature of the injury, according to the KDKA website. Heidi McDonald, a former Edgewood councilwoman, was trick or treating with her son on Linden Avenue just four doors from the corner of Maple Avenue when the accident happened about 7:30 p.m. "We heard …

Edgewood Police Deal with Dogs Left in Cars, DUI Arrests and Accidents

Here are police reports for late August and early September from Edgewood Police Department.

Edgewood police responded to two calls where owners had left their dogs unattended for long periods of time in their cars. On Aug. 31, an owner left a dog unattended in a car with the windows closed for about an hour at Edgewood Towne Centre. The owner was cited for disorderly conduct. The same day, another dog was left in a car with the windows partially opened for about 30 minutes. That owner was also cited for disorderly conduct. Accident Slows Traffic on South Braddock

A wreck occurred near Regent Square Thursday afternoon.

A two-car rear-end collision near South Braddock Avenue at Biddle Avenue occurred around 4:30 p.m. Thursday.   No one was injured. Traffic was backed up for about half an hour while the accident was cleared.
