Volunteer of the Week: Hubert Kreutzer

Meet a great volunteer from the Habitat for Humanity ReStore!

Hubert Kreutzer of Swissvale spends some extra time lending a hand as a volunteer at Habitat for Humanity’s ReStore at the Edgewood Towne Center.

While he also is a patrol guard for students in Edgewood, Kreutzer said he got involved at the ReStore over the summer as it opened.

“During the summertime, I don’t have a lot to do and I saw the store and figured, well, it’s an experience,” he said.

The ReStore is run with an all-volunteer staff. The local store has used furniture, appliances, kitchen items and decorations that are all donated. Some of those items that come into the store also are used to help equip Habitat for Humanity homes that are being built throughout the region.

As a store volunteer, Kreutzer straightens things up, puts items away and helps to unload the trucks that bring in newly donated goods. In addition to keeping him active, it also provides personal rewards.

“It keeps me busy,” he said. “You do things for people—and you get it back.”

The Habitat for Humanity Restore at Edgewood Towne Center is open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. For more information, visit www.pittsburghhabitat.org/shop. The store is run by an all-volunteer staff and through donations of gently used home goods and appliances.
