Curtains for Woodland Hills

Warning: This blog should cost you $10 per person

After my last blog about charter schools, I thought I would choose a less controversial topic.  But I'm sure people would get bored with yet another column about global warming, WMD's or government scandals.

Did you know that it's Curtains for Woodland Hills?  That's right, the 25th Anniversary Musical for my beloved alma mater is a fabulously funny whodunit comedy with murder, mayhem and love!  If you are fortunate enough to get the local access channel that features all things Woodland Hills, you probably have seen a behind-the-scenes look at rehearsals and a wonderful compilation video with footage from ALL 24 MUSICALS TO DATE!  Trust me, it's a stroll down memory lane you will be thrilled to take.

When I think of Woodland Hills and the people within it, my mind automatically goes to those who are - - in my mind - - irreplaceable.  If you are reading this and thinking, "Nobody is irreplaceable," please know that my response to such is an expletive of incredulity that starts with bull and ends with t.  Any student-athlete would tell you that Mr. George Novak is such a person.  And any student who has had any experience in the Performing Arts Department at WHHS - - myself gratefully included - - will tell you that Mr. Tom Crone occupies the same rarified air.  Is he tough?  Sure.  Does he prepare his students for any audition, rehearsal and performance in the "real world"?  You betcha.  Is this District indebted to him for putting us on the map as Gene Kelly Awards Show regulars?  Absolutely.

I heard a nasty rumor that the ticket demand is less than last year's because "people don't know this show."  Seriously?  It's a Woodland Hills show.  Our kids are beyond gifted.  No matter how old or new the show is, anyone in attendance will think they have been transported to a certain area in NYC.  If you love performing arts, there is only one thing left to do.  Order your tickets.  Call 412-244-1100, ext. 5187.  I am stocking up on paper bags to provide to people on Monday, May 7th if they haven't seen the show.  No, they are not for grocery shopping and yes, you may cut out small holes for your eyes.

The show runs April 27th, 28th, May 3rd, 4th, and 5th.  The evening shows are at 8:00pm and the Saturday matinees are at 1pm.  The Gene Kelly Awards will be on Saturday, May 26th at the Benedum.  Am I jinxing us?  NO!  My daugher already has her outfit picked out.
