Habitat Hosts Kids Triathlon

This event is held this weekend.

Nearly 250 young athletes from all around Southwestern Pennsylvania will compete in Habitat for Humanity’s annual Kids Triathlon in South Park on July 21.

Since its inception 12 years ago by a group of Habitat supporters and US Congressman Tim Murphy, the series has raised more than $700,000 dollars for affordable housing and helps instill the value of community service with the young participants.  Kids  ages 7-12 and their families are expected at Saturday’s event where the kids will swim, bike, and run.  Trophies and prizes will be awarded and all kids receive a goodie bag and finishers medal.

Kristi Ferrero, Habitat board member and volunteer Race Director at the South Park event said, “The race continues to be a great way for athletes, families and volunteers to be involved with an event that’s healthy, fun, and a direct support to those in our local communities.  Whether they are actively engaged in competitive sports or just looking to have a good time, each child will be encouraged and celebrated throughout the morning.  These young athletes have a lot to be proud of.  They have prepared themselves to compete in an exciting race.”
