Wolverines Roll Past Indians with 31-17 Win Friday Night in North Hills

The Woodland Hills Wolverines are now 2-0 for the season.

The Woodland Hills Wolverines came out of last week’s riding a wave of momentum that carried them to a 31-17 victory over the North Hills Indians Friday night.

This would be their first test away from the Wolvarena and Coach George Novak said they weren’t taking it lightly.

“The kids worked hard all week,” said Novak. “They are good kids working together as a team."

The hard work seemingly paid off and the Wolverines came out hungry. The defense started things off, forcing the Indians to a three-and-out punt situation. Sophomore Trevon Mathis came up with a big punt block and the ball was recovered in the end zone for a Wolverine touchdown.

stayed strong on defense and ended the first quarter with a big offensive drive that was capped off by a two yard touchdown by senior running back Jamiere Dutrieuille.

North Hills added a field goal with 7:36 left in the half, only to have the Wolverines answer back with a field goal of their own by senior kicker Sam Scifo. The Indians were driving late in the half and had a chance to add more points, but senior Emilio Venturella came up with a big interception to end the half with the score 17-3.

The third quarter started and saw more defense from both teams. The Wolverines were driving down the field when the Indians intercepted a pass and returned it to the Wolverines one yard line. The Indians scored on the next play to bring the score to 17-10.

The fourth quarter started with some fireworks when Dutrieuille took the handoff 79 yards for the Woodland Hills touchdown.

“I was thrilled when I saw the hole open up after two big blocks,” said Dutrieuille.

The score was now 24-10 and the Wolverines seemed to be pulling away. The Wolverines added to their lead when sophomore running back Harry Randall returned a punt for a touchdown, making it 31-10.

North Hills added a touchdown at the end, but were no match and the Wolverines left the away stadium with a 31-17 victory.

The Wolverines head to Plum next week where they will take on the 1-1 Mustangs Friday night.
