Wolverines Defeated by Central Catholic
The Woodland Hills Wolverines lost Friday night in their toughest game yet.
The returned home to the Wolvarena Friday night to face what would be their hardest test of the season, falling short against Central Catholic in a 31-13 loss.
The game started on the first play from scrimmage when Vikings completed a 70-yard touchdown pass. The play was called back due to a penalty on the play. The Vikings ended up having to punt the ball and pinned the Wolverines deep in their own territory.
The Wolverines were unable to get anything going on their first drive and gave the ball back to the Vikings, who put the first points of the night up on a fourth and goal rushing touchdown. The Wolverines opened up the second quarter with a fake punt, but it came up just short and they ended up turning the ball over in their own territory.

The Vikings didn’t waste the opportunity either, taking advantage of the field position and scoring on another rushing play. The Wolverines got the ball back with little time left in the half, but were able to sustain a nice offensive drive. Just as it looked as if the Wolverines were going to put some points on the board, they were stopped and turned the ball over on downs.
The Vikings drove down the field and added a field goal as time expired in the half, making it 17-0 at half.

The Wolverines came out of the half receiving the kickoff and was marching down the field, when senior quarterback Patrick Menifee threw an interception. It didn’t turn out to hurt the Wolverines though, as the Vikings were unable to move the ball on the Wolverines defense.
The Wolverines got the ball back and were able to put together a long drive and capped it off when Menifee hooked up with senior wide receiver Shakim Alonzo 28 yards through the air for the Wolverine touchdown.
The Wolverines then came up with another impressive defensive stand, but turned the ball over when their punt returner fumbled the ball. The Vikings once again took full advantage, scoring on a 42-yard touchdown making it 24-7 Vikings.
The Vikings weren’t done though; they got the ball back and scored on another big rushing touchdown from 50 yards out. The Wolverines wouldn’t go quietly coming back with a touchdown of their own when Menifee hooked up with senior running back Mike Caprara from 7 yards out. The final score was 31-13 Vikings.
“We could have played better and we missed a lot of tackles,” said Menifee.
The Vikings played great football though, and the Wolverines head coach George Novak knew this would be their biggest test so far.
“They are a very good team and are solid at every position,” said Novak.
