The Wolverines are holding onto their lead as they continue a winning streak.

The Wolverines are off to an impressive , adding another to their resume Friday night with a 45-6 victory over the Plum Mustangs.

The Wolverines were coming to Mustang Stadium with a 2-0 record and the Plum team knew they would have their work cut out for them, as they tried to better their 1-1 record.

“They are a good team every year,” said Plum Head Coach Frank Sacco. “We have to play fundamental and smart football.

The game started with a bang when Plum went three and out and elected to punt the ball. Wolverines return man sophomore Ronald Ford returned the punt for a touchdown, but was called back on a holding penalty.

Plum got the ball back and senior quarterback Chris Zdinak threw an interception, only to have the call overturned because of a penalty on the Wolverines. The Mustangs continued to drive and eventually Zdinak hooked up with junior running back Jake DiGuilio on a screen pass to score the first touchdown of the game. They failed to add the extra point at the end of the play.

The Wolverines got the ball back and were seemingly on their way down the field to score their first points of the game when Plum junior defensive back Nick Deluca intercepted a pass in the end zone.

The Wolverines started the second quarter with junior Bruce Curry intercepting a Zdinak pass and Woodland Hills never looked back. The Wolverine offense exploded in the second quarter with senior Jamiere Dutrieuille scoring on a six-yard touchdown run. Ford added a two-yard touchdown run of his own on the next series. Then, right before the half, senior quarterback Patrick Menifee hooked up with senior wide receiver, Shakim Alonzo, for a seven-yard touchdown to make it 21-6.

The Wolverines didn’t take their foot off the gas in the second half either when Dutrieuille ran back the opening kickoff for a touchdown. The Wolverines got the ball back and drove down the field only to have Dutrieuille cap off another drive with his third touchdown of the night.

Woodland Hills special teams shined again when sophomore Harry Randall took another Plum punt back for a touchdown. They also had their senior kicker Sam Scifo add a field goal in the fourth quarter to conclude the scoring.

The Wolverines walked away with another win and Coach George Novak was pleased with his team.

“They had some good defensive schemes and are a young team,” said Novak. “We made a lot of mistakes in the first half, but pulled it together."

Among the game's stars once again was senior running back Dutrieuille with three touchdowns. And still, he strives for perfection.

“It feels good when everything gels together, but I could have played better,” said Dutrieuille.
