ELKS Hoop Shoot

The ELKS Hoop Shoot is the largest co-educational basketball competition in the US.  It is sponsored jointly locally by the Wilkins and Braddock Elks Lodges. The event is open to boys and girls ages 8 to 13. It is a multi-round competition with 1st place winners continuing to move up to subsequent rounds.  Here is how it works:

The boys compete separately from the girls.  The competitors are divided into 3 age groups 8-9,  10-11 and 12-13.  Each child shoots 10 free throws from the appropriate foul line in round one.  In round 2 they have to shoot 15 free throws.   The total number of shots made determines the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners in each age group for both boys and girls.  Because there are two lodges in the Woodland Hills School District, there will be double medals awarded for each place; that means a total of 36 medals will be awarded in round one at the local shoot.

Registration is at 9 am and the shoot starts at 9:30 am.   It will be over by 1 p.m.  All competitors must be accompanied by a parent or guardian who must complete the registration form authorizing their child to participate. A signature is necessary for insurance purposes. All 1st place winners move up to the next level as champions.

The next level is the District shoot, held on Feb 4 at Good Shepherd School in Braddock.  All expenses are paid by the Elks organization. This is a completely FREE competition and competitors and their parents/guardians do not need any affiliation with the Elks to participate.
