Work Under Way for New WPSD Dorm

Work is under way to build a new residence hall on on the Western Pennsylvania School for the Deaf campus in Edgewood.

The new building will provide living space for all residential students. Demolition of the existing residence building, built in the 1960s, began in May.

According to WPSD, the residence hall will feature state-of-the art technology, increased energy-efficiency through a geo-thermal system, and an improved emergency warning system. The living areas will be organized into private, smaller pods to foster a sense of community living and a family atmosphere.

The project is expected to be completed in the fall of 2014. A. Martini & Co. is performing the work.

Check out the WPSD Facebook page for project updates and more information.
