Woodland Hills Student Newspaper Named Second in State

Students win second place in Keystone Press Awards.

The Woodland Hills Update won second place in the best school newspaper website category of the 2011 Keystone Press Awards, a state-wide journalism contest sponsored by the Pennsylvania Newspaper Association Foundation.

The student staff of the Woodland Hills Update includes Taylor Madigan, Chelsea White, Jackie Young, DeJuana Ingrahm, Pat Menifee. Zain Siddiqui, Scott Valko, Myia Weisend, Maggie Lilac, Morgan Lapidus, LaEva Morrison, Destiny Kyles, Brandon Sachs, Kristen Avery, Alix Glynn, Dalton Relich. The students are taught by journalism teacher Patricia Kennedy.

The Student Keystone Press Award winners will be honored at a luncheon on March 16 during the America East Technology and Operations Conference at The Hershey Lodge in Hershey, Pa.

The Keystone Press Awards reinforce excellence by individuals in the newspaper profession by recognizing journalism that consistently provides relevance, integrity and initiative in serving readers, and furthers First Amendment values.

The goal is for the "Keystones" to stimulate journalists to improve their craft and ultimately improve their community.

The Pennsylvania Newspaper Association Foundation provides both student and professional Keystone Press Awards contests. Each year, thousands of entries are received and judged. Hundreds of professionals and students are recognized through these prestigious contests.
