Wilkinsburg School District Files Petition to Borrow $3 Million

District is running out of money; cites charter school costs as one issue.

In February, a judge will rule on a petition filed by Wilkinsburg School District to borrow $3 million it needs to make payroll.

WTAE-TV reports that Wilkinsburg officials said the money is going to charter schools. Also, during the past few years, they've seen cuts in state aid.

The district is also hoping to make extra money by selling the old Johnston school.

The school district is killing the borough. A merger is long over due for Wilkinsburg.

A merger with who? That's a tough sell!

The issue is that the test scores are rising and the state needs to(basically) take over before a merger would happen. The state isn't going to step in with scores rising. Like when the state took over Duquesne SD they merged and split it up. That worked ok for Duquesne because they weren't putting rival towns together in one school. Wilkinsburg with east hills(PHSD) or wilkinsburg with braddock(WHSD) or wilkinsburg with various PGH areas is going to be a bad situation. Not like when the state put Duquesne into an area without gang activity.
