WH Mock Trial Team Gains Replica Courtroom

The Allegheny County District Attorney's Office gave the courtroom as a gift to the school.

Through a gift from the Allegheny County District Attorney’s Office and the Greater Pennsylvania Council of Carpenters, the at will be able to practice in a replica of an actual courtroom.

The model was dedicated at the high school on Wednesday in room 100 by . Representatives of the carpenters’ union and the district also were present.

Woodland Hills High School was chosen for the first installation as its mock trial team has a long history of excellence. It has represented the county at the state finals four times out of the last seven years.

Current team members include seniors Margaret Baker, Mary Caparosa, Alexander Howell, Vincent LeDonne, Kimberlee Moore, and Amanda Stumme; juniors Michaela Buzzard, Mitchell Rode, and Erin Schwogel; and sophomores Miranda Johnston, Myah Olson, and Michael Smith.

The team began last season with a tournament at the University of Pittsburgh in January and went on to a set of victories in the first round. They advanced to the second round where a very close loss to Seton-La Salle Catholic High School ended their season.

For the 2011 season, the team ranked third overall in Allegheny County and was the first ranked public school.

The team is coached by Woodland Hills alumna and lawyer Ms. Jamie Glasser and WHHS faculty member
