Tour Du District Recruiting Volunteers

The is recruiting sponsors, volunteers and riders for its second annual Tour Du District, a bike ride which raises money for student scholarships across communities.

Woodland Hills Foundation President Steve Gough said sponsors are needed for food, bells for bike riders, signs, walkie talkies and more. The ride will be held Oct. 1.

“Sponsorships are the key because a lot of time and effort goes into this,” Gough said. “We would also like to be able to give gifts to the riders and volunteers in the end.”

Volunteers are needed to direct traffic at the corners of the route, which winds through all 12 boroughs in the school district. Last year, 100 riders participated.

“It’s probably the least expensive ride there is,” Gough said.

The Tour Du District is $5 for kids who complete a 2.5 mile ride, $5 for a five mile ride option, and a 25 mile ride and 30 mile is $25.

“Right now, we are contacting the police departments, EMS folks, volunteers from the past, teachers and administrators, and we will soon be taking the fliers and through the community,” Gough said. “This year, we would like more riders and we are looking forward to another safe ride.”
