Special Woodland Hills Budget Meeting Scheduled Next Week

The school board must approve a final budget by the end of the month.

Woodland Hills School District officials continue to work on balancing a budget for the 2013-14 school year.

On Wednesday, June 26, the school board will meet to pass a final budget. A budget must be approved by the end of this month.

Last month, the board approved a $86.5 million working budget. Due to the county reassessment, the district's millage rate was reduced from 26.2 mills to 21.8 mills in an effort to remain revenue neutral.

However, district Business Manager Joyce Sullivan said last week that the millage would have to be adjusted because officials expect an $11 million assessment reduction after commercial appeals.

Sullivan said the district's federal Title I funding is expected to be reduced by 8 percent for the 2013-14 school year, creating a wage shortfall of about $60,000 in the working budget.

The budget meeting will be held at 7 p.m. in the board room at the administration building.
