Kevin McGuire is excited for the start of a new year.

has a new librarian this year. We had a chance to ask him a few questions recently before he headed out to the Wolvarena for a football game.

Woodland Hills High School Librarian: Kevin McGuire, 26

How long have you worked at the high school?

Since 2008. As a teacher, you can be certified in multiple areas and I have that certification in social studies, English and library science. I became an English teacher in 2009, started as a social studies teacher and now I am a librarian.

What are you looking forward to in your new position?

It was an opportunity and I am excited because I can interact with every kid in the entire school, make the library a center for learning and help everyone. You are everyone’s teacher and not a set number of students teacher.

It’s a football night so I am looking forward to that and I coach the team,  which I am really looking forward to because it’s just been the best thing so far. I also work with our Interact club, which works with the students who volunteer with local rotary clubs. It’s something fun to see kids in their element outside of high school.

How will you be helping students this year?

We will be starting book clubs eventually and I would like to get some more resources in there by building connections with community libraries and meeting with parents.
