Learn how to build Lego Robots at the Swissvale Library


Through the 2012 “Senior Solutions” Challenge, middle school age children (grades 5th through 8th) will explore the topic of helping seniors stay Independent, Engaged, and Connected.


The Robotics Class introduces students to real-world
engineering challenges by building LEGO-based robots to complete tasks related to the 2012 “Senior Solutions” Challenge. Students will have the opportunity

•             Design,
build and program robots using LEGO MINDSTORMS® technology

•             Apply real-world math and science concepts

•             Research challenges facing today’s scientists

•             Learn critical thinking, team-building and presentation skills

•             Participate in a regional tournament that attracts over 700 students

•             Learn several programming languages including NXT-G and RobotC

•             Access on-line tools such as Robot Simulators and Development Environments

In addition to building LEGO robotics, students will prepare
their own “Research Project Presentation” connected to the 2012 “Senior Solutions” Challenge.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE:       Students in grades 5th through 8th.

WHERE:  Swissvale Library

WHEN:  Saturday mornings from Sept. 15th to Dec. 8th (9:30am- 12:30pm)

HOW TO REGISTER: Go to the Swissvale Library (1800
Monongahela Ave) and enter your name and child’s name on the sign-up sheet at the front desk.  Also fill out the
one-page “Student Enrollment Form” at the front desk.

Only open for Students in grades 5th through 8th.


Please note: Space is limited.  So, if you are interested, please do not wait until the last minute to enroll your child in this program.
