Woodland Hills Appoints Two New School Board Members

was appointed to represent Region 2 while , a longtime Woodland Hills supporter and Shaffer Elementary Parent-Teacher Organization president, was appointed as an at-large member.

“I am so eager to serve,” she said. “First and foremost, I want to improve communication across all lines in the district. Not just from administration to the school board, but from teacher to parent and parent to teacher so everyone is on the same page.”

The Woodland Hills School Board earlier this year created a new method of electing directors to the positions in the district, creating both regional representative spots and at-large positions. Because of the election results in November, two slots were left open for the board to appoint new members themselves.

Reis also said she wants to “foster admiration” from the top to bottom throughout the district.

“I think our biggest challenge is overcoming a long held negative perception of our schools,” she said. “There are so many things going on and it’s so exciting.”

Hanchett was not present at last night’s meeting, according to Maria McCool, the Woodland Hills communications director. He is the husband of Swissvale Council member and son-in-law of current Woodland Hills School Board member Fred Kuhn, sources said Tuesday.

Reis added that as she becomes a new school board member, no one could do the job with as much passion as she.

“There’s nobody who is a bigger fan than I am and I am so thrilled and honored to have this opportunity to serve,” she said.
