What is Your Neighborhood's Median Income?

An interactive map at the Rich Blocks, Poor Blocks website offers a glimpse at median household incomes, by neighborhoods, in the Forest Hills-Regent Square area—or anywhere in the country.

Take, for instance, the Swissvale neighborhood between the South Braddock Avenue business district and Frick Park. The number shows a median household income of $80,781. Yet the neighborhood between McClure Street, the East Busway and Rankin has a median household income of $25,313.

In comparison, the statewide middle-class income range is $44,750 and $54,425. The information for the map is obtained from the U.S. Census Bureau's 2007-2011 American Community Survey.

The neighborhood near the Western Pennsylvania School for the Deaf in Edgewood has a median income of $53,750. But the adjacent Wilkinsburg neighborhood bordered by Walnut Street, Coal Street and the East Busway has a median income of $12,218.

The section of Forest Hills between the Wilkinsburg border and Filmore Road has a median income of $64,853, while the rest of the borough has a median income of $50,027.
