Clean Up Days Scheduled in Edgewood, Swissvale and Turtle Creek

It's time for spring cleaning!

Spring is here, and that means it's time for some spring cleaning! Several local communities have scheduled Clean Up Days. Here's a roundup:

Edgewood

The Edgewood Foundation will be sponsoring the annual Earth Day Clean Up of the borough on Saturday, April 20, at Koenig Field between 9 and 10 a.m. Those who attend can enjoy light refreshments before setting off to help clean up trash around the neighborhoods. Work for as long as you wish! Gloves, safety vests and trash bags will be provided. Rain date will be April 27.

This year's clean up day has been scheduled for April 27 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

"I am appalled at the conditions of the streets and alleyways. It seems as though no one and I mean no one knows how to pick up the paper or the bottles, cans or wrappers, cigarette and cigar butts. I have even seen chicken bones lying on the sidewalks. Where is the pride of having a clean town where you live?" stated a Turtle Creek resident, according to the Turtle Creek Office of the Mayor Facebook page.

"I pray that we find the energy and determination to turn this bad habit around and do a little picking up," the resident continued.

There's hope the statement will be a motivator for area residents to help out in this year's cleanup day.

You're asked to contact Mayor Adam Forgie at 412-823-0154 if you can volunteer.

Swissvale

A clean up day in Swissvale has been scheduled for May 18 at the borough building. Details are not yet available, but keep checking back for them.

The current borough newsletter states, "By reclaiming an abandoned park or playground, eliminating tall weeds and debris from a vacant lot, or sprucing up sidewalks and public spaces along the street, you’ll be making our neighborhood less attractive to criminals and more attractive to the community, which makes the community safer."
