Traffic Study to be Conducted on Sherwood Road

Forest Hills officials are hoping a traffic study will provide some solutions about ongoing traffic issues on Sherwood Road.

Last week, borough council authorized a traffic study to be performed on the road beginning at Morrow Road.

Over the last few months, residents of the neighborhood have been highlighting some noise and traffic problems stemming from the Hosanna House International's Sherwood Event Center, which is located at the end of the one-way, residential street.

The Sherwood Event Center is technically located in Wilkinsburg Borough. However, there only is one way to get there, and that's on Sherwood Road in Forest Hills.

Councilman Markus Erbeldinger suggested getting the traffic study completed in an attempt to be proactive.

Borough officials and residents also have been meeting with Wilkinsburg and Hosanna House officials to try and alleviate some of the problems. Forest Hills Councilwoman Devon Wood said the most recent meeting was scheduled to take place on Wednesday, June 26.

Hosanna House has been undergoing renovations, and a new dek hockey rink also is scheduled to be built on the property.

Resident Jane Freund of Bryn Mawr Road (the road intersects with Sherwood) said the process has been an "uphill battle with no relief." She said once the dek hockey rink is built, even more people will be traveling to the center for league games and tournaments year round.

"Our road was never intended for the traffic," she said.

In the meantime, police are monitoring speed in the area and have place a digital speed sign for motorists.
