Saturday is Edgewood Community Day

Food, games, magic, activities, police K-9 demonstrations and symphony program highlight a day that ends with Zambelli fireworks.

The one day each year comes together for a day-long celebration is happening this Saturday.

Edgewood Community Day will take place from noon until dark, when the event ends with Zambelli fireworks, at Koenig Field. Boy Scout Troop 23 will conduct the opening ceremony at noon.

The East End Dukes will open with a show from 12:10 to 1 p.m. The Jean Foukes Band will perform at 2 p.m.

From noon until 4 p.m., the will sponsor children's games and activities, including balloon animals and airbrush tattoos. There will also be a little bit of magic when a strolling magician begins the rounds at 12:45, followed by a magic show under the tent at 1 p.m.

Bob FM 96.9 will broadcast live from Community Day from 4-6 p.m.

Community Day features activities under the tent from 2-7 p.m. Swissvale and Forest Hills police will present a canine demonstration at 6:15 p.m.

The which will be cooking up chicken or rib dinners, and other local organizations will add some food to the mix during the day.

The Boy Scouts are sponsoring a rock climbing wall and the Edgewood Foundation will have an air bounce at Koenig Field. The Masons will provide their CHIP Program (child identification).

At 7 p.m., the drawing for the Edgewood Police Department raffle will be held. You must be present to win.

Edgewood Symphony Orchestra will conduct a concert from 7:30 to 9 p.m.

Then the day ends with a bang—a Zambelli fireworks extravaganza. The borough is still seeking donations from local businesses and residents to help with the cost of this Community Day tradition, which while beautiful has a significant impact on the borough budget.

All sponsors will receive recognition on Community Day and prior to the fireworks display.
