Primary Election Guide: Candidates for Forest Hills-Regent Square Area Races

This year's primary election will be May 21. Take a look at who filed to be on the ballot.

There are several government seats—council, school board, mayoral—up for grabs this year in Forest Hills, Regent Square, Edgewood, Swissvale and the Woodland Hills School District. This year's primary election is on May 21. Republicans and Democrats are seeking their party's nomination to appear in the general election ballot in November. Here's a look at who filed to run in local races.

Forest Hills Borough

Mayor—Incumbent Marty B. O’Malley, a Democrat, is running unopposed.

Tax Collector—Incumbent Janet Yuros Sullivan, a Democrat, is running unopposed.

Council, four four-year terms—Incumbents William Tomasic and Markus Erbeldinger, as well as James Kiley are running on the Democratic ticket. No Republicans are running.

Edgewood Borough

Mayor—Incumbent J. Edward Cook, a Democrat, is running unopposed.
  
Tax Collector—Incumbent Maureen Smith, a Democrat, is running unopposed.
  
Council, four four-year terms open—Incumbents John Wainright and John Bridhe are running on the Republican ballot. John Wilson is on the Democratic ballot. 

Swissvale Borough

Mayor—Incumbent Deneen Swartzwelder, a Democrat, is running unopposed.

Tax Collector—Incumbent Thomas Barr, a Democrat, is running unopposed.

Council, four four-year terms—Incumbents Michele Kotula Stanton, Darrell O. Bell Sr., David Petarca and Mike F. Epitropoulos, as well as Martin F. Busch, Tim Bagwell and Julie A. Grose all are hoping for the Democratic nomination. No Republicans filed.

Woodland Hills School District

School director at large, one four-year term—Incumbents Colleen Filiak and Fred Kuhn, as well as Jon Coulter, Michael Belmonte and Maria Athens have cross-filed. Incumbent Jeff Hanchett and Gisele Fetterman will be on the Democratic ballot.

School director at large, one two-year term—Incumbent Fred Kuhn has cross-filed. Incumbent Jeff Hanchett and Gisele Fetterman will be on the Democratic ballot.

Region 1 School director, one four-year term—Incumbent Tara Reis has cross-filed.

Region 2 School director, one four-year term—Incumbent Fred Kuhn and Jon Coulter have cross-filed. Incumbents Jeff Hanchett and Robert Clanagan, as well as Gisele Fetterman are on the Demoncratic ballot.

Reg. 2 School director, one two-year term—Incumbent Fred Kuhn has cross-filed. Incumbent Jeff Hanchett is on the Demoncratic ballot. 

Reg. 3 School director, one four-year term—Incumbent Colleen Filiak and Michael Belmonte have cross-filed.

Pittsburgh Public Schools

District 1 School Director (covering Regent Square)—Sylcia Wilson has cross-filed. Lucille Prater-Holliday is on the Democratic ballot. 

Allegheny County Council

The District 8 seat on Allegheny County Council is up for grabs. The district covers Edgewood and Swissvale boroughs.

Incumbent Charles Martoni, a Democrat from Swissvale, will face Republican Dave Majernik of Plum in the November general election.
