Meet the Council Member: George Fuller

Check out what your local leader has to say about the future.

George Fuller recently was elected to a four-year term on Council. Here’s what he had to say about upcoming issues the borough faces. He has lived in the neighborhood since 1958.

What are your main goals as a new council member?

We have an excellent police force and I would like to see that remain strong. Our police contract is up this year and I would like to see Edgewood retain the ability to have a full-time force. A lot of struggling communities have just part-time officers and we are unique. That really benefits the community because the community knows them and they know the community. Edgewood historically in winter also has cleaner roads than any other community and it will be a challenge to keep everything running smoothly, but I want us to keep up all of that work without increased taxes.

What do you enjoy most about living here?

I think the sense of community and also because of our location, you can get anywhere in the city in 15 minutes. We are fortunate that we have a lot of different ways to get around.

What are the top three issues facing the borough currently?

Public safety is always a top issue. I think that managing the borough’s finances is tough because as the state and federal government withdraw funds, more dependence is placed on local government. I also think that keeping Edgewood a unique community is a challenge — keeping real estate values where they are. Dealing with the financial picture is the biggest challenge we face right now.

What are you looking forward to as a council member?

Providing the community with the services they have always enjoyed.
