Judge Caulfield Hears DUI, Assault Cases

See the results from hearings handled last week by District Judge Thomas Caulfield in his Forest Hills courtroom.

The following are the outcomes of cases heard by District Judge Thomas Caulfield on Sept. 26 in his Forest Hills courtroom:

  • Stephen A. Hallahan, 48, of Wilkins Township waived his right to a preliminary hearing on charges of driving under the influence (general impairment/incapable of driving safely, first offense), driving under the influence (highest rate of alcohol, blood alcohol content .16+, first offense) and failure to use turning movements and required signals. While patroling on Aug. 5 along Ardmore Boulevard, Forest Hills police spotted a silver Honda Accord traveling at a high rate of speed. An officer pursued the car until the WTAE studios. During the traffic stop, the officer detected a strong odor of alcohol on Hallahan, who then failed field sobriety tests. His breath analyzer reading came back at .214 percent—legal limit is .08 percent. Forest Hills police filed the charges.
  • Jimmy Gleen Mitchell, 30, of Wilkisburg waived his right to a preliminary hearing on two counts of simple assault and two counts of harassment (subject other to physical contact) following an incident in the 2500 block of Columbia Avenue in Swissvale on Jan. 22. Swissvale police filed the charges.
  • Reginald Dale Hudson Jr., 23, of Braddock waived his right to a preliminary hearing on charges of simple assault and aggrevated assault in connection with an incident on Dec. 18, 2011 on Woodstock Avenue in Swissvale. Swissvale police filed the charges.
  • Joseph Mitchell, 34, of Wilkinsburg waived his right to a preliminary hearing on charges of driving under the influence (general impairment/incapable of driving safely, second offense), driving under the influence (highest rate of alcohol, blood alcohol content .16+, second offense), driving while license is suspended, disregarding traffic lanes and reckless driving. On Aug. 16, a Forest Hills police officer observed a car being driven by Mitchell not staying within the traffic lanes near the intersection of Ardmore Boulevard and Morrow Road. After a traffic stop, the officer detected the odor of alcohol on Mitchell. Mitchell refused a blood alcohol content test and Forest Hills police filed the charges.
  • Jeremie Jontel Leverett, 23, of East Pittsburgh was held for court on charges of open lewdness, intentional possession of a controlled substance by a person not registered, possession of marijuana and disorderly conduct in connection with an incident Sept. 23 in the Noble Street municipal parking lot in Swissvale. A police officer observed Leverett urinating in public. During a pat down, police discovered suspected marijuana and suspected crack cocaine. Swissvale police filed the charges. A charge of public drunkenness and similar misconduct was withdrawn.
