Election Preview—District Judge Races

Here's a look at the local races for district judge.

Marc Taiani and incumbent District Judge Kim Hoots will face off in the Nov. 8 election for the Magisterial District 05-2-10 seat in Wilkinsburg, which also will soon cover Edgewood Borough.

“I am running for district judge in Wilkinsburg and Edgewood, as our municipalities  for the purposes of court,” Taiani said. “I was given the honor of representing our districts in the primary and I am asking for your support.”

Taiani, who lives near Kelly School in Wilkinsburg, is a licensed attorney who has been practicing in western Pennsylvania for 10 years. His background is in family law, criminal offense and real estate legislation.

“All of those matters pertain to the magisterial district judge and the responsibilities a judge has,” Taiani said.

Hugh McGough won the bid for district judge in the East End during the primary election.

“It was a long time coming,” McGough said a few months ago. “I’m a third-time candidate and honored that the more people got to know me, voters had the confidence to select me for this wonderful judicial position. There were great candidates here and I am honored to have been selected among the four candidates.”

The race for judge in Magisterial District 05-2-35 in the East End area, which covers portions of Regent Square and Park Place, had four different candidates, including Doug Shields, McGough, Joe Weinroth and Dan Butler.

 secured his position in Forest Hills in Magisterial District 05-2-08 by winning on both the Democratic and Republican tickets in the primary election.

Caulfield won the Democratic ballot with a total 39.91 percent of the vote (1,139 votes) and the Republican ticket with 37.69 percent of the vote (372 votes).  Poll results are according to the unofficial returns posted on the Allegheny County Department of Elections website.
